Chapter 7

The sun had set, and her dad stayed in his room. Hope had to go outside again in the bathroom to take the first-aid kit.

She needed some painkillers if she wanted to sleep peacefully. The memory of this day would be engraved in her mind forever.

The first and... hoping the last time he would hit her-he did promise her, he would never do it again.

She went downstairs and saw that the broken glass was still on the floor. She sighed and crouched to pick them up. She got a tiny cut while doing so, but she didn't notice it.

She got up and looked at the kitchen table. It was dark inside and quiet. Hope's eyes were empty. She was staring in a room that used to be filled with laughs and promises, but now... nothing.

Flashback

"So dad... in a year, I will start middle school again. It's already the last year, do you think it will be harder?"

her dad smiled

"Oh come on, princess, not everything in life is easy, but I will tell you that. I will be by your side to always help you. I don't think you need help, though. You are a smart little cookie."

He ruffled her hair, and they both laughed.

Present

"I don't want to go to middle school anymore, dad, if you won't be by my side."

She was now sitting on the chair that she had sat that day. That morning where things were better. It wasn't perfect since Ashley was cheating on her dad.

At least the relationship they had as a father and daughter was great. The day he promised he would always be with her.

Tears were formed at the corner of her eyes. She put her head on the table and cried silently.

Night eventually came, and Hope dozed off for quite some time.

Due though to the sharp pain on her shoulder and the uncomfortable position, she woke up.

She looked at the clock and realized that she had to go to school. She had time, so she walked into the living room and opened the window.

The morning breeze on her face was refreshing, and she immediately woke up. She looked down at the streets, and they were almost empty.

The few people who were walking down the streets seemed tired. She laughed a little when a little kid was yawning uncontrollably. It was a nice feeling watching the daily things others would do.

After some time she closed the window and headed to her room. She bandaged her arm in case the wound would re-open and wore her clothes.

She got her bag and as she was about to leave she glanced for the last time at her dad's room.

"Should I leave a note? But I did tell him about school,so everything would be Okay.... I better leave a note on his door"

She ran back in her room to take a sticky note and wrote something.

" Good morning dad, if you are reading this means I'm at school and you just woke up. Today I would come later than yesterday since we are officially starting. Love you.

-Hope"

She put it on the door and left to catch the bus.
