Chapter 8

Hope got out of the house and waited at the bus stop. She had to wait a bit since the last bus had left just a few minutes ago.

Some people also gathered at the stop, waiting for the bus to arrive.

After twenty minutes the bus arrived and people got out of it. When everyone got out, Hope went inside. It was empty except from the few people who waited with her.

"It's nice and quiet."

She thought to herself when she sat on the seat next to the window. She waited for the bus to start, and then she put on her earphones.

Time almost flew by, and they were close enough to the school. Her heart started beating faster, and her breathing was heavier.

The anxiety started taking over. She tried calming down by taking a few deep breaths. She wanted to get distracted and looked outside the window.

She saw that the bus was getting close to a stop. There weren't many people, so the bus would still be pretty empty.

She took her phone and changed the music as soon as the bus stopped.

Ed Sheeran was her choice. It was a calm song that loved the very first time she heard it with her dad.

People came inside the bus and at the end was a tall kid with his hoodie on. He also had earphones on.

As he was going at the back, his phone disconnected from his earphones, and the song started playing, and everyone could hear it.

I'm thinking out loud

Maybe we found love right where we are. "

He seemed a bit flustered as he was trying to turn it off, but eventually, he managed to connect the earphones to the phone.

Hope had a smile on her face. When she heard the song, she turned around to look where it was coming from since it wasn't from her.

The boy was looking out of the window and then looked towards Hope. To his surprise, she was still looking at him but immediately turned around and avoided him.

He was confused, and she was now the flustered one. The anxiety vanished the moment she heard the song, not only from her phone but also on his.

They soon reached the school and she got out. As she was moving, she felt someone coming from behind her.

She turned around, and she was a bit taken aback.

"Good morning, Hope ! First day at school, are you excited?"

It was Lucas. She didn't actually expect him to become friends with her. He seemed excited, though, and didn't want to let him down.

They did say they would be friends, and ignoring him now would only make things awkward.

"Good moring, Lucas. I'm actually kinda nervous, but it's gonna be fine."

He looked at her and started moving. He took a few steps and looked at her again.

"What are you waiting for? Let's go."

He extended his hand, taking hers and making her walk beside him.

She had a faint smile on her face.

"He is kind."
