Chapter 50

HENRY

In the early hours, in our bed, Camille lay on her stomach while I stroked her bare back and kissed her shoulders. She was swinging her feet back and forth — so endearing that I wondered how I'd been stupid enough to lose this woman in the past. Internally, I breathed a sigh of relief that I was managing to win her back.

"Henry, shouldn't we go check on the kids?" she asked, without moving.

"I brought the baby monitor in here. If they wake up, we'll hear them."

"You know, I was just thinking — our kids are incredible. They hardly give us any trouble. They only wake up twice a night."

"Only? You think that's not much?"

"There are babies who wake up even more, Henry. And when they were younger, they used to wake up every two hours... My babies are growing up so fast."

"Yes, they are. Before we know it, we'll be dropping them off at college."

"Don't joke about that!" Camille rolled over and tried to swat me, but I caught her hand and kissed it, smiling. "I don't want them to grow up. They're at such a wonderful age!"

"They're going to grow, and with every stage, you'll enjoy them even more. Don't worry."

"You know that once they're older, we won't be able to do what we did in the living room, right? Imagine if the kids walked in on us."

"Yeah, that wouldn't be fun... which is why we need to make the most of it now, hmm?"

I kissed her neck and she squirmed, ticklish.

"Henry, speaking of making the most of things... well... are you really sure you want to tie yourself down in a relationship right now?"

"Absolutely sure. Why do you ask?"

"Well, the other day, my mother showed me an article about you on some website. They were talking about your efficient management style, how you turned things around fast and saved a company everyone thought was going to go under."
