Chapter 40

That same night, I felt tense and on edge. I didn't really know who I was sharing a roof with anymore. Henry ordered dinner to be delivered, sparing me from having to cook.

Cecilia wasn't trustworthy and wasn't who I'd thought she was, but I shared our dinner with her anyway. Afterward, I went back to my room and Henry came with me.

We watched our children sleeping, and in that moment I was grateful I'd decided to keep their crib in my room.

"Come on, Henry. You can't stay in that shirt — it's soaked in baby pee." I pulled him toward the bathroom.

Out of pure habit, I started taking off his blazer, then his shirt. As I looked at him half-undressed, I realized just how fresh the memory of our intimacy still was. I hadn't even asked his permission before I started undressing him.

"I'm sorry. I, um... I think I forgot you're independent now," I said, a little embarrassed.

I looked up at his face and he was staring back at me. His eyes were fixed on me as if I were the only thing in the world he could see.

Without warning, he kissed me, then lifted me up and set me on the bathroom counter. I tried to pull away from his kisses, but they were intense and urgent, and before I knew it, I was kissing him back.

I instinctively wrapped my arms around his neck as he kissed my face, trailing lower, his lips tickling my skin and making me forget to breathe for a few seconds.

"Henry, stop..." I said, trying to push him away, my breath coming in ragged gasps.

"Don't say no again. I can't take it anymore, Camille. I want you — right now, right here..." He went back to attacking my lips in a sensual kiss, biting my lower lip and tugging it. His hands gripped my hips, pulling me against him.

"Just one more time... just this once. One time..." I said, giving in to his kisses.
