That evening, to add to Carter's bad mood, his grandfather showed up at the company, reviewing all the business movements.
"Good evening, Carter!" his grandfather said as he entered his office.
"Come in, Grandpa. Tell me how can I help you?" Carter responded.
"I don't need anything. I just want to know when you will introduce your girlfriend to your grandmother and me. I asked Rodrigo, and he told me she works here," his grandfather said sternly.
"Yes, indeed. She's the best at what she does," Carter replied.
"Hmm, remember that love and business don't go well together. I only ask you not to bring your romantic affairs to the office, and I need you to hurry up and introduce us to that girl," his grandfather said.
"Yes, of course. In fact, I was planning a dinner at home this weekend to formally introduce her," Carter said, feeling somewhat nervous.
"That sounds perfect. Don't worry about the preparations; your grandmother will be more than thrilled to make a fuss. You just focus on bringing this girl, if she exists," his grandfather said, leaving the office.
Carter couldn't help but feel incredibly stressed after everything that had happened that day.
"Ramon, please come up to my office," Carter requested through his cellphone.
"Yes, sir!" Ramon replied.
Ramon went up to Carter's office and could sense his boss's annoyance.
"Ramon, I need you to go to the city center and buy a cellphone with GPS included. Once you have the GPS code, before 5 a.m., leave the cellphone in the lawyer's office along with this card," Carter said, handing Ramon an envelope.
"Yes, sir!" Ramon said, exiting the office.
Carter truly didn't know what was putting him in such a bad mood - whether it was his grandfather putting pressure on him or the fact that Emma might be looking for another man.
The next morning...
Emma woke up very early, as it wasn't difficult for her since she had to rise early during university to work on assignments that some classmates paid her for, covering her personal expenses. Despite all the difficulties she was facing, she was finally going to start working, and even better, at the best company that would open doors for her in the future.
"Emma, where are you going at 4 in the morning?" asked a groggy Chantal.
"Don't forget I start at 5 a.m. I just came to say goodbye and let you know that there's food in the fridge so you won't need to buy junk," Emma said, covering Chantal.
"You're truly an angel. How can you do so much?" Chantal said, still half-asleep.
Emma left the apartment and, to her surprise, found Ramon already waiting outside on the street.
"Good morning... Miss, your transportation is ready," Ramon said, opening the car door.
"Good morning... This man is really controlling. I'm only getting in the car because I don't want him to scold you because of me. By the way, I'm Emma. And you are...?" Emma said, extending her hand to Ramon, leaving him surprised as none of the women Carter had previously dated had talked to him, let alone greeted him so warmly.
"Uh, my name is Ramon, Miss," replied Ramon, giving Emma's hand a slight squeeze and changing his serious demeanor to a more relaxed one.
"Alright, Ramon. Let's get to work," Emma said, getting into the car.
During the ride, Emma looked at the city; she had never been there before. There were many luxurious stores and restaurants. Upon arriving at the Miller building, Emma stepped out of the car and stood in front of it, taking a moment to look.
"You can do it, Emma," she said to herself with a nostalgic sigh.
