Idiot who thinks highly of himself!... Emma said as she walked, unable to find her way out. Her head were already hurting as she read the papers, trying to find an error that would give her a chance to break the lawsuit.
After nearly two hours of walking, she finally managed to hail a taxi. Her feet hurt so much that she had to take off her shoes when she got into the cab.
"Is there no transportation here?!" Emma asked, exhausted, as she sprawled in the backseat of the taxi.
"No, miss, it is not allowed to enter the Miller mansion, so it's about 80 kilometers to get out of the area," the taxi driver said.
Emma arrived at Chantal's apartment, where Chantal was already getting ready to go out.
"Where were you, Emma? I've been calling your cellphone until I realized you left it in the room," Chantal said, applying lipstick as she looked at herself in the mirror.
"I was living the worst day of my life," Emma said, sitting at the table and resting her head on the papers.
"Why, tell me what happened?!" Chantal asked.
"I have a $2 million lawsuit, and if I don't pay, I have to marry Carter and give him a child. I have to decide within 36 hours, and 20 hours have already passed. Today, I saw my sister, but I couldn't say anything because my mother was chasing me and Carter showed up to pretend in front of everyone that we were dating. I walked for two hours to leave his mansion," Emma said, leaning on the table, leaving Chantal in shock.
"Your mother doesn't surprise me, but that arrogant Carter is a bastard to sue you... but being his wife sounds tempting. He's incredibly handsome, and rumors say he's a beast in bed," Chantal laughed.
"Don't make fun of my misfortune! I've read this damn paper, and there's no way out. It would have been better if I hadn't woken up from that accident. And gross, that comment about Carter!" Emma said.
"Half the country wants that man, literally," Chantal said.
"Yes, but not me. Let him find someone else for his plans, because I'd rather go to jail than be with him," Emma said, annoyed.
"Look, you need to distract yourself. Let's go to a nightclub, and tomorrow you can decide," Chantal suggested.
"No, I prefer to stay and read to see what I can do. You go and have fun, just take care and don't drink too much," Emma said.
"Alright, just think carefully. He's an idiot, but you're smarter than him, so don't let him overpower you, my friend," Chantal said, kissing Emma on the head and leaving the apartment.
Emma spent the whole night among books, hoping to find options, but it seemed like there were none. She was so tired that she fell asleep, unaware that time was ticking. When she woke up, it was already 9 in the morning, and she had three hours left to find a solution.
"Damn it, I overslept!" Emma exclaimed, brushing the sheet off her face.
"What's the commotion?" Chantal asked, coming out of the room.
"I have three hours before the police come for me. What am I going to do?" Emma said, worried.
"I was thinking, Emma, maybe it would be a good idea for you to sign that marriage contract. It will only be for two years, and then you'll be free from that lunatic. Maybe you can find a way to get out of the contract in the process. But for now, it buys you some time," Chantal said, nervous and pacing back and forth.
Meanwhile, Carter was anxious and somewhat regretful of what he was doing, but he planned to set Emma free after marrying her in six months, telling his grandfather that the relationship had failed.
"Are you really crazy, Carter, or is that woman driving you mad? This contract seems more like a one-way ticket to insanity," Rodrigo, Carter's friend, said.
"I know, but my grandfather is pressuring me so much, and once we're married, I'll calm him down. In a few months, I'll be done with all of this," Carter said, covering his face with anxiety.
"Brother, you know what you're doing, but believe me, someone will get hurt in this game," Rodrigo said, a friend concerned for Carter.
