Thomas watched as the van carrying Óscar Román drove away.
"Talk about a close call, cousin," Héctor put a hand on Thomas' shoulder.
"I'm not in the mood for your jokes," Thomas shrugged him off and entered the warehouse, followed by Héctor who kept annoying him.
"I still can't believe you put up with Pilar for six months," Thomas said.
"The same goes for you and Paloma," Héctor's face twisted in displeasure.
"Low blow, cousin, very low," Héctor spoke offended.
"If you're going to get offended by everything, next time don't mess with me, I know where to aim."
"Hmph, it shows," Héctor mocked him.
Marlon unintentionally chuckled.
"See, even Marlon admits it," Héctor pointed to the burly man who straightened himself up.
"He's right, sir, that's a problem he only has with women," Héctor burst into laughter.
Thomas stormed off, frustrated, walking through a few hallways until he reached the drug laboratory. He took a few minutes to change and put on suitable clothing before starting to cook the drugs.
UNITED STATES
The days seemed to pass too quickly for Agustín; he only had about three months left until his wedding. He wished the days would last longer, but it was impossible.
Not a day went by without Karen tormenting him, reminding him of how foolish he was to get involved with her, that she couldn't bear his indifference. She asked him to love her as he did Luisa, but it was too much to ask when he barely felt any affection for her. He regretted the family his child was going to have, but he couldn't do anything about it.
He was in the final exams to finish high school. After that, he would take care of his father's business part-time, dedicating the rest of his time to studying and being a good father. Just that, being a good father.
"Viví," he called Luisa's best friend, who was sitting at one of the tables in the high school courtyard.
"Tell me, Agustín, I'm busy," she spoke indifferently. She found out from Matías that the man standing in front of her had cowardly deceived her friend.
"I won't take much of your time," he spoke quickly.
"Go on," she said without looking at him.
"I was wondering if you've had any contact with Luisa or if you have a number I can reach her at."
Viví stood up furiously. "You're such a cynic, Agustín, shameless, and an idiot. How dare you come and ask me for information about my friend after you abandoned her and handed her over to the arms of a man no one knew? She trusted you, loved you. And tell me, what did you do? TELL ME!" she shouted the last word.
"I made a mistake, Viví, and I was a coward, but I won't be anymore. I want to find her so we can run away together, like I promised at first," he said desperately.
"Your promises mean nothing, Agustín, and listen carefully to what I'm about to say: even if I had information about her, I would never, and I mean never, give it to you," she pointed her finger at him.
"Why are you threatening my sweetheart?" Karen's voice interrupted the conversation.
"You've stooped so low, Agustín, that I feel sorry for you. You were worse than her own father; at least he always showed her hatred and didn't deceive her like you did," Karen looked at him with disgust.
"Hey, dumbass, I won't allow you to treat my fiancé like that," Karen approached Viví defiantly.
"You two are made for each other," Viví pointed at both of them with a fake smile. "And you, bitch, I will never fear you. Don't get confused; I won't do anything to you because of the child you're carrying," she pointed at Karen's belly.
Viví gathered her things and as she was about to leave, Agustín grabbed her arm.
"Please, Viví," he pleaded. "I can't handle this."
"Let go of me," she pulled away angrily. "You deserve all of this," she pointed at Karen, who glared at her. "And much more." She walked away.
Agustín rubbed his face in frustration. He didn't know how to reach Luisa.
"I want to know what you were talking about so much with that four-eyed girl," Karen asked, crossing her arms annoyed.
- None of your business\, so stay out of it. - She grabbed her backpack and looked at her again. - I can't stand you\, so leave me alone. - She bumped into her shoulder and walked away.
Karen sat at the tables where Agustin and Vivi had been sitting before, looked at her slightly bulging belly, and let out a frustrated sigh.
- I do everything for money\, and if it doesn't work out\, I swear I'll get rid of you. - She got up and went to her classroom.
In the afternoon, Karen talked to her parents and told them everything she overheard Agustin saying to Vivi, although she acted indifferent in front of them.
- Damn it\, even when she's away\, she still manages to mess up our lives. - Priscila spoke hysterically. - What if Agustin manages to find her and they run away together? - She said nervously.
- Don't get worked up\, my love\, I have a plan. - Santiago gave her a triumphant smile.
- Look\, dear\, it's not that I don't trust your plans\, but we're in this mess because of them. - Priscila reproached him.
- And as always\, I'm the one paying the price and carrying the burden of your mistakes. - Karen said annoyed.
- Don't be so negative\, both of you. The plan I have is perfect\, so much so that if Agustin manages to find Luisa\, she will be the one to reject him.
Santiago began to explain in great detail everything they had to do; there couldn't be any mistakes, it had to be executed perfectly so they could kill two birds with one stone.
