In the cellar, Thomas reluctantly released Pilar.
"I thought I made myself clear, Pilar. I don't want to repeat it," he pointed his finger at her.
"To be honest, my love, I don't know what you see in that girl. She's so..." she paused, searching for the right word, "ordinary."
"Look at yourself, Pilar. You can't even compare to my wife," he retorted sharply.
"I won't allow you to treat me like this because of that foolish girl. You'll regret it," she threatened.
"Don't threaten me, Pilar. It won't benefit you or your father," he walked away, ignoring Pilar's shouting.
He reached the warehouse, confirmed that everything was in order, and the merchandise was in good condition. After approving the shipment, he went to where Luisa was waiting for him.
He boarded the vehicle, but she completely ignored him, not even looking at him. She focused on the window, let out a sigh, and started driving. Thomas thought that today would be a great day with her, but everything went wrong.
After about twenty minutes, he gathered the courage to speak to her.
"Luisa, where do you want to go?"
"I want to go back home," she answered without looking at him.
"Come on, Luisa. Today, I want to spend time with you."
"It's evident," she said in a dry tone.
"Well, I don't believe you."
"I'm not interested if you do."
"Say it while looking into my eyes," he began to provoke her.
"I don't care if you do. I'm not interested if you sleep with her or not. I just want you to take me home. Or do you still want to humiliate me? If I had known that would happen when I left the room, I would have preferred to stay there," she said tearfully.
Thomas felt guilty seeing her like that. She was right. Pilar had humiliated her, and he hadn't stood up for her.
"I know our relationship is a farce, but I don't want to be portrayed as the cheated wife in the news. I won't tolerate it."
"That's the only thing that matters to you? Your image or what your ex-boyfriend sees? That you're unhappy while he's happy with your sister?" Thomas, realizing what he had said, smiled ironically. Instead of fixing things, he was making them worse.
"You think I'm like you, not respecting your fake wife? I apologized for Agustin, but you haven't done the same."
"I don't know why I would apologize when I didn't do anything. Pilar is just a..." She interrupted him.
"I don't want to know what she means to you." She opened the door. "Either you stop or I jump," she threatened.
"You wouldn't dare."
"Want to see?" She was about to jump when Thomas grabbed her waist.
"You're crazy, Luisa," he abruptly stopped. "Leave your childishness behind and grow up."
"You want me to grow up? You're the one telling me to grow up. Do you have any idea what it's like to live with a father who beat you for simply breathing? A mother who barely survived his abuse? And a brother who was never home and believed all the lies our tormentor told him? Because that's what my father was to me. I was just another servant who slept in the stable. If I complained about not being fed, I grew up realizing that, despite the years, I will always be a prisoner of the pain caused by my own family. And do you know what my only mistake was? Being born." She shouted the last words with pain. Her crying was intense, releasing all the repressed pain.
Upon seeing her, Thomas didn't hesitate to embrace her. She tried to reject him, but he held her closer to his chest until she stopped resisting.
"Forgive me, Luisa. I didn't know the extent of the pain that man caused you."
"I don't want your pity, Thomas. I don't need it," she said, sobbing.
"What I feel for you isn't pity, Luisa. And I apologize for Pilar. She doesn't..." He didn't let him finish.
"Apologize to me for accusing you without a reason. But I'm tired of everyone stepping on my feelings."
Thomas held her face with both hands and looked into her eyes. If only she knew that she owned his entire life, she wouldn't feel this way. Without thinking, he kissed her.
He tenderly caressed every part of her small mouth, and his hands went from her face down to her hips, pulling her closer. They separated due to lack of air and rested their foreheads together.
"I love it when fights end like this," Luisa smiled shyly.
- We should leave\, your men have traffic stopped. - Thomas looked back and noticed that there were almost ten cars held up by his men.
He smiled and led Luisa to the car, both fastened their seat belts, and headed towards their house. When they arrived, Lucía prepared something light for them, and they went to their respective rooms.
Ten minutes had passed when Thomas knocked on Luisa's door. She opened it and was surprised to see him.
- I assumed it was Lucía.
- I'm sorry if I'm bothering you\, but I came to ask if you wanted to watch a movie with me.
- Of course\, that would be great\, and I'm still not sleepy.
They went to the living room, and Lucía prepared popcorn for them. She said goodbye to both of them and went to rest.
- Action\, romance\, horror\, or comedy? - Thomas asked\, giving her the options.
- Action\, - Luisa replied.
Thomas pressed play on the movie, and they began to watch it. The plot was interesting, involving mafias, illegal races, and other things.
The movie lasted for two hours. When it ended, Luisa was asleep, and Thomas was about to doze off as well. Without thinking, he settled on the couch next to her, inhaling her scent. Luisa cuddled closer to his chest, and he just smiled. After all, the day hadn't been so disastrous. He kissed her forehead and drifted off to sleep.
