Episode 16

The guests continued to congratulate Luisa when Lorena appeared, her arrogant attitude giving Luisa a look full of contempt, which only she could notice.

"Congratulations, dear niece," she muttered through gritted teeth; it was clear they had forced her to say those words even from miles away.

"Thank you," Luisa smiled, pretending to be friendly; she knew how to act with hypocrisy too.

Lorena glared at her but couldn't say anything. That girl was protected by her brother and nephew. She said goodbye to them and went to sit next to her son, Hector.

"I don't know why my brother protects her so much," she whispered to her son.

"Frankly, mother, I don't care," he said, placing the glass he had in his hands on the table and turning to look at her. "I've been thinking, mother, and I wonder why you hate the Brown surname so much when the one who should hate it is right there." He pointed at Thomas, who was dancing with Luisa and smiling at her.

Upon hearing that question, Lorena became tense. She didn't like to talk about it, and even worse with her son. It was a memory she wanted to erase from her mind forever.

FLASHBACK.

It was past ten o'clock at night in the beautiful city of New York, getting ready to welcome the New Year. In some suburbs, the streets were somewhat deserted, with only drunkards and drug addicts lingering around, wanting to continue the party elsewhere in the city. For some people, being out in those places at that hour was a sure death sentence.

A beautiful woman in her twenties walked these streets with a certain fear. She was on vacation with her older brother, Raul. She had lost track of time while celebrating in a bar as the New Year approached. Although she was very important in Italy, she acknowledged that in foreign lands, she was an easy prey for any enemy, someone who wouldn't hesitate to take her as a hostage or seek revenge for any atrocity caused by the Italian mafia.

Feeling afraid, she arrived at a taxi stand, but there were none available. So, she stayed there waiting for one, hoping it wouldn't take long. It hadn't even been two minutes when a luxurious car stopped in front of her, and from it emerged a very attractive man, not much older than her, probably around 22 or 23.

"Hello, beautiful lady," he smiled sweetly. "I see you're left without a taxi," he pointed out the empty stand.

"Hello, good evening," she replied. "Well, yes, but I'm sure one won't take long to arrive."

"I'm afraid to disappoint you, but taxis take a while to come here, just as you know, it’s New Year's Eve, and maybe they only worked for a while and then decided to go home to welcome the New Year," the attractive man explained.

"You think so?" She asked, and he nodded.

"Where are you heading, beautiful lady?"

"To the city center, my brother is waiting for me there."

"Today is your lucky day. I was just heading there. If you wish, I can take you to your destination. These places are dangerous at this hour."

The girl smiled kindly; the man seemed pleasant, so she gladly accepted his offer. It was either that or stay stranded there, exposed to potential harm from any pervert.

"If it's not too much trouble, sir..."

"Santiago. Call me Santiago Brown." He opened the passenger door for her.

"A pleasure, Santiago. My name is Lorena Moretti," she said as she got into the car.

The man started the engine, and a minute later, a taxi arrived at the stand, but too late for the girl, who had fallen into the clutches of that wolf.

END OF FLASHBACK.

"Mom," the voice of her son brought her back to reality, "What's wrong? I've been talking to you for a while, and you seem lost in thought."

"I'm sorry, I don't feel well. The presence of that girl gives me a headache," she said, rubbing her temples.

"You're being overly dramatic, mother. That woman hasn't done anything to you," Hector said, annoyed.

"Not to me, but..." Lorena stopped herself immediately.

"But what?" Hector inquired, wanting to know more about the topic.

- Don't pay attention to me\, son\, I'm just talking nonsense. - She stood up. - I'm going to the bathroom to touch up my makeup. - Héctor rolled his eyes\, worried about her\, while she\, concerned about her makeup\, scoffed at that\, took a drink\, and started sipping it\, observing the couple who were discreetly showing affection\, which amused her.

Thomas fervently held Luisa's hand after dancing with her. They sat down to enjoy the celebration, without any setbacks, as it was a successful birthday party.

- Do you like your birthday party? - He whispered in Luisa's ear\, causing goosebumps on her skin.

- Yes\, everything is beautiful. - She smiled and turned to look at him. - Thank you for this. - She kissed him on the cheek.

- You're welcome. - He caressed her cheek and smiled. - Remember that you're my wife\, and I would do anything for you. - He gave her a short kiss on the lips.

Luisa blushed at his words but stopped breathing when Thomas gave her a small kiss. It wasn't new for him to kiss her, but he had never done it in public, not even when they got married in a civil ceremony.

- I adore it when you blush. - He told her once he pulled away from her.

Luisa turned into a tomato again, causing Thomas to burst into laughter. - You're unique, Luisa.

- You know\, I've been very well-behaved. Don't you think I deserve a reward?

- Perhaps. - Luisa said\, deep in thought. - I'm going to let you choose your reward. Ask for anything\, and I'll make you happy. - Luisa didn't realize the weight of her words.

- Anything? - Luisa nodded without looking at him because if she had\, she would have noticed the mischievous smile Thomas had when she said those words.

- Are you sure? - He asked again\, confirming if he had heard correctly.

- Completely sure. - Luisa said\, smiling\, unaware of what her husband would ask of her.

- I want you to sleep with me tonight...
