Third Person's Point of View

Wakatoshi is late.

Really late.

That's all he can think of as he jumps out of bed, tripping over the open suitcase on the floor in his haste to get to the bathroom.

His alarm hadn’t gone off at 6:30 as scheduled and now it’s after 7, leaving him less than fifteen minutes before his taxi is scheduled to arrive.

Which gives him almost no time to get dressed, wash his face, and pack his last few things, let alone eat anything.

He can't even give Tendou more than a quick kiss and a whispered goodbye.

(He was totally planning to do more)

He smacks his elbow on the doorframe and he bites back a whimper so he doesn’t wake Tendou up.

As he runs the water, he goes through his mental checklist.

The last thing he need is to be late for his flight and forget something crucial.

Satori

Wakatoshi-kun, what’s wrong?

Tendou’s sleepy voice floats to him from their room.

He looks like he just woke up, the right side of his cheek red from where he’d been sleeping on the back of his hand, and eyes soft with tiredness.

Wakatoshi

Why are you up already?

Wakatoshi

It's too early, go back to sleep.

Wakatoshi tells him instead, grabbing a bunch of hair products at random and stuffing them into his toiletry bag.

The zipper jams and he curses under his breath.

Ushijima clearly isn't the type to get flustered so easily.

Tendou takes the bag from his impatient hands and presses a lazy kiss to Wakatoshi’s cheek.

Satori

Go make some toast or something. I’ll help you pack.

Wakatoshi

I have to get this in the suitcase, and my suit that’s in the closet and that always takes a long time to fold up the right way, and then--

Tendou shushes him with another kiss, this time on the lips.

Satori

I’ll take care of them. You should eat something.

Satori

You always say airports kill your appetite and then you end up not eating for too long.

Wakatoshi

The cab’s coming soon.

Satori

I know. Go eat.

Wakatoshi’s shoulders sag, but he nods.

Wakatoshi

Okay.

Ushijima quickly stands up and walks to the kitchen.

There’s not enough time to make anything more than toast, but he pops a few slices of bread into the toaster to munch on as he eyes his watch.

Tendou brings his suitcase from their bedroom, setting it down in front of the door.

Satori

That’s everything.

Wakatoshi

You got my phone charger?

Satori

Yep.

Wakatoshi

And the suit from the closet?

Satori

I did.

Wakatoshi

And--

Satori

Your sport socks, extra shirts, jersey, spare towels.

Tendou squeezes his hand gently.

Satori

Everything, 'Toshi.

Satori leans in for a small kiss in the cheek.

Which certainly could've ended to something deeper if only----

A yellow car pulls up in front of their apartment--he’s got to go.

Satori

Have a safe trip.

Tendou tells him, squeezing his hand.

Satori

I'll watch your game on TV.

Satori

And enjoy Milan. Take pictures for me.

Wakatoshi

I’ll be back in two weeks.

Wakatoshi reminds him, kissing him sweetly.

Wakatoshi

I love you.

Satori

I love you too.

Wakatoshi grabs his suitcase, pats his pockets to make sure he has his phone and wallet, and then he’s gone.

He never likes leaving for too long, but this is one of their important games and he's an important player.

He checked his phone and sees that Kageyama and Hoshiumi was also on their way to the airport.

And he wonders, as he searches for jewelry stores near his hotel.

Wakatoshi

I wonder if Satori would like an engagement ring from Milan.
