Chapter 7 - A Feeling
I waited and didn't dare move.
He told me not to move, so I'll do just that.
I remained quiet and shivered as the night fell.
Suddenly, I heard some footsteps. Someone's coming this way...
What if it's one of the hunters? Or a feral wolf?
I held tightly onto my blade and then jumped out in front of the approaching creature.
But I was met with a shock.
I watched as he approached me with his robes stained with his crimson blood.
He collapsed in front of me, and I was quick to rush to his side.
I pulled him up against a rock and looked at the damages.
I quickly rummaged through his bag and found some clean bandages and needles. I also found some metal thread, most likely to stitch him up.
I tried to stop the bleeding as I looked up at him.
His masked face looked down at me, then he winced when I applied a little too much pressure.
Aluna Yan
I'm so sorry. This needs stitches! You're in luck, I know how to do them pretty well.
My father allowed me to practise on the minor wounds that he got when he came home from a mission.
I gently pricked his skin after cleaning him up and gently brought it together to stop the blood from coming out.
He bit his lip as I slowly healed him.
As I finished, I looked up at him and suddenly, a hand came from behind and put a hairpin into my hair.
I then felt it and realised that it must have fallen out.
He went back there... to get this? He got hurt because of me...
Li Wei
This is special to you... why?
He saw me hugging it last night while I was sleeping then...
Aluna Yan
It was my mother's. She was a talented herbalist and taught me all I needed to know.
Aluna Yan
Well, while she was still alive. Now, I learnt them all from books she left behind.
Li Wei
Where did you learn how to stitch up like that?
Aluna Yan
My father. He's also dead now...
Aluna Yan
He used to leave and come back covered in wounds.
Aluna Yan
Sometimes my mother went with him and they left me with my grandfather.
Aluna Yan
It's been 6 years and they've yet to return so I can only assume that they're dead.
Aluna Yan
That sword belonged to my father. As he was leaving, he handed it to me and my mother gave me this hairpin before they left.
Aluna Yan
Their last words to me were... be strong.
I looked up at him and smiled.
Aluna Yan
Sorry, I shouldn't bother you with my past. It's irrelevant, anyway-
Li Wei
The past is not something that you should forget. It shapes your character and makes you who you are today. It's crucial.
He then grimaced as I cut the thread and I smiled.
Aluna Yan
Thank you for retrieving this...
Aluna Yan
Rest up. You lost a lot of blood.
Aluna Yan
You need some red meat.
I got up and grabbed my sword.
Li Wei
Where are you going?
Aluna Yan
Don't move. I'll be right back.
And just like that, I ran into the woods, leaving him this time.
He then smiled and gritted his teeth.
