The investigator gave a nervous cough, clearly uncomfortable with the tension in the room. “Sir, if you’ll allow me, we need to proceed with the investigation.”

Gave a dismissive wave of his hand. “Do what you need to,” he said, his eyes still on Lena. “But I’ll be keeping an eye on you.”

The investigator waited until the mafia boss was out of earshot before speaking again. “Lena… You should be careful. Those men… They’re dangerous. And if he’s involved, that makes you even more of a target.”
Lena
“I can handle him,” she said, her voice steady, but her mind was already running through the ways she could protect herself. She’d faced danger before. She could face it again.

The investigator gave her a look of concern but didn’t argue. “Just… be careful, alright?”
The interrogation room door clicked open, and Lena stepped out into the stark, sterile hallway of the police station. Her heart was still racing from the tension of the investigation, but she was determined not to let it show. She had answered all the questions with precision, standing firm in her resolve despite the mafia boss’s looming presence. She wouldn’t let fear control her—she refused to.
As she walked down the hallway toward the exit, her eyes darted briefly to the waiting area. And there he was.
