Chapter 4: Tension in the room

Lets start lilies💕
The air inside the conference room felt heavy, thick with unspoken words and lingering history. The members of Eclipse and Stratos sat on opposite sides of the long table, their managers standing near the head, going over the details of their unprecedented collaboration. Yet, no amount of discussion could drown out the silent battle of gazes between Taehyung and Jungkook.
Jimin, seated next to Taehyung, stole a quick glance at his best friend. Taehyung’s face was calm, unreadable—but Jimin knew better. He could see the tension in the way Taehyung tapped his fingers against his knee, the way his jaw clenched just slightly. On the other side, Jungkook looked much the same—stoic, detached, yet his eyes held a flicker of something darker when they met Taehyung’s.
Hoseok, sensing the tension, leaned slightly toward Yoongi and whispered,
J-hope
Should we be worried?
Yoongi exhaled through his nose, arms crossed
Seokjin, sitting between Jungkook and Namjoon, nudged Jungkook’s shoulder lightly.
Kim Seokjin
You okay, Kook? You’re practically drilling holes into the table.
Jungkook snapped out of his trance and forced a smile.
Jeon Jungkook
I’m fine, Hyung.
Namjoon cleared his throat, looking around the table.
Kim Namjoon
I know this is unexpected for all of us, but if we’re going to pull this off, we need to work together.
His eyes settled on Taehyung and Jungkook.
Kim Namjoon
That means everyone.
Taehyung leaned back in his chair, arms crossed.
Kim Taehyung
No problem here.
Jungkook’s expression didn’t change.
The way they said it, as if daring each other to disagree, was not lost on anyone.
Their manager, sensing the unspoken challenge, decided to cut through the tension.
Manager(Stratos)
Good. Because you two will be the centerpieces of this project
Taehyung and Jungkook’s heads snapped toward him simultaneously.
they both said, almost in sync
A small smirk tugged at Jackson’s lips.
Jackson Wang
Oh, this is gonna be fun.
As the meeting concluded, the members of both groups filed out of the conference room, murmuring about schedules and rehearsal dates. But Taehyung and Jungkook remained behind, standing near opposite ends of the now-empty table.
For a moment, neither spoke. The weight of their past and the uncertainty of their future hovered between them like an invisible wall.
Jungkook was the first to break the silence.
Jeon Jungkook
This doesn’t change anything.
Taehyung tilted his head slightly, an unreadable expression on his face.
Kim Taehyung
Didn’t think it would.
Jungkook let out a breath, his grip tightening on the chair in front of him.
Jeon Jungkook
Let’s just do the job and move on.
Taehyung nodded slowly, but there was something in his eyes—something Jungkook couldn’t quite place.
Jungkook stiffened at the familiar nickname. Taehyung’s tone was casual, but Jungkook knew better. He wasn’t sure if Taehyung was mocking him, challenging him, or simply reminiscing.
Either way, it didn’t sit right.
Without another word, Jungkook turned and walked away, leaving Taehyung standing alone in the empty room, staring after him.
The past had a way of creeping back when you least expected it.
