Chapter 3: Shadows of the Past

The announcement had sent shockwaves through both groups. Fans were divided, the industry was watching, and the members of Eclipse and Stratos were left reeling. But for Taehyung and Jungkook, it was something more—something deeper, buried beneath years of history neither wanted to acknowledge.
Taehyung lay sprawled on the couch, his head resting against the armrest as he absentmindedly scrolled through his phone. Fan reactions ranged from excitement to absolute chaos, but that wasn’t what was bothering him. His fingers hovered over a private chat he hadn’t opened in years. Jeon Jungkook.
Jimin, noticing his silence, sat down beside him, nudging him with his knee.
Taehyung scoffed, locking his phone.
Kim Taehyung
Yeah. Just thinking.
Yoongi, who had been silently sipping his coffee, finally spoke.
Min Yoongi
About the collab? Or about him?
Taehyung tensed but didn’t answer.
Hoseok, leaning against the counter, watched him carefully.
J-hope
You haven’t said Jungkook’s name once since the meeting. Thought you two used to be close?
Taehyung sat up, forcing a smirk.
Kim Taehyung
That was a long time ago, Hobi. Things change.
Jimin exchanged a glance with Yoongi but didn’t push further. They all knew better than to dig too deep into old wounds.
Jungkook was pushing himself harder than usual. Even Jackson, who never took anything too seriously, had started to notice.
Jackson Wang
Kook, chill out
he said, catching his breath after their latest run-through.
Jackson Wang
What’s got you so worked up?
Jungkook wiped sweat from his forehead, shaking his head.
Jeon Jungkook
Nothing. Just want this to be perfect.
Namjoon crossed his arms, watching him carefully.
Kim Namjoon
This isn’t about perfection, is it?
Seokjin sighed, grabbing a water bottle and tossing it to Jungkook.
Kim Seokjin
You gonna tell us why you and Taehyung haven’t talked in years?
Jungkook froze for a split second before catching the bottle. He twisted the cap off aggressively.
Jeon Jungkook
There’s nothing to talk about.
Namjoon didn’t look convinced, but he let it go—for now.
Years ago, before the pressure of the industry, before they became idols, Taehyung and Jungkook had been inseparable.
They met in middle school, drawn together by their shared love for music and their mischievous energy. They spent their days skipping study sessions to sneak into the music room, playing guitar and dreaming about the future. Their bond had been effortless, their laughter unrestrained.
But everything changed when Jungkook’s family moved away suddenly, cutting their friendship short.
They had promised to stay in touch, but time and distance created a rift neither of them knew how to mend. By the time they saw each other again, years had passed, and they were no longer the same boys who once dreamed together in a tiny music room.
The members of Eclipse and Stratos were finally brought together in a sleek, high-rise conference room at a neutral location. Managers sat at the head of the table, but it was the tension between the idols that filled the room.
Taehyung and Jungkook locked eyes for the first time in years.
But the silence said everything.
