A deep sigh left his lips as he leaned back against the wall, tilting his head up to the ceiling. His eyes burned from the lack of sleep, but more than that, they burned from the emotions clawing at his chest.
How could he make this right?
Would he ever be able to?
Before he could fall deeper into his thoughts, the sound of approaching footsteps caught his attention. He lifted his gaze just in time to see a doctor walking toward them. The sight made his heart clench painfully, his stomach twisting in fear.
Jimin straightened beside him, his hands gripping the fabric of his jeans as he, too, braced himself.
The doctor stopped in front of them, flipping through a chart before finally looking up.
"Jihyun is stable."
The words hung in the air for a moment, almost as if they didn’t register in Taehyung’s mind right away.
"His condition has improved significantly, and he will regain consciousness soon."
Taehyung remained motionless, his mind struggling to process the meaning of those words.
Jihyun is stable.
He’s going to wake up.
His son is safe.
His son is alive.
A sharp breath left him, and suddenly, his body sagged. It was as if the weight of the entire world had been lifted from his chest.
He stumbled back slightly, before sinking down into the chair behind him. His hands lifted to his face, covering his mouth as the first wave of relief hit him. His shoulders shook ever so slightly as he exhaled deeply, his head bowing forward.
A few silent tears escaped, slipping through his fingers. He wasn’t even aware of them at first, too overwhelmed by the sheer weight of what he had just heard.
Jihyun was going to be okay.
Jihyun was going to live.
His body, which had felt like it was on the verge of breaking, suddenly trembled—not with fear, but with relief so powerful it made his chest ache.
