~CHAPTER 11 : DINNER DATE~
But as night fell and the stars appeared in the sky, a sense of unease began to creep back into Ethan’s heart.
He knew that the peace they had found was fragile, like a delicate glass ornament that could shatter with the slightest disturbance. The weight of his unresolved feelings for Maya, coupled with the guilt of neglecting Rachel for so long, began to settle in once more.
The next morning, Rachel woke up early, feeling refreshed and content after the blissful days they had spent together. She smiled as she watched Ethan still asleep beside her, his features softened in slumber. Quietly, she slipped out of bed, not wanting to disturb him, and headed to the kitchen to start breakfast.

Just as she was placing the last plate on the table, Ethan walked into the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

Rachel nodded, though a small seed of doubt had been planted. She didn’t want to push him, especially after the wonderful days they’d shared, but a part of her couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
As the day went on, Ethan tried to stay present, but the calls and messages from Maya became harder to ignore. He knew he couldn’t put off dealing with her much longer.
The guilt and the confusion were building inside him, and he was beginning to feel like he was being pulled in two different directions.
By the afternoon, Ethan could no longer pretend everything was fine. After Rachel had gone out to run some errands, he finally picked up his phone and read the messages Maya had sent.
They were filled with urgency, pleading for him to meet her and talk. She claimed she needed him, that she couldn’t stop thinking about him, and that they had unfinished business.
Ethan sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. He knew he had to make a decision. Ignoring Maya wasn’t going to solve anything, but the thought of seeing her again, of getting drawn back into the web of attraction and confusion, terrified him.
He had seen first hand how easy it was for him to be swayed by her, and he didn’t want to risk undoing all the progress he had made with Rachel.
But Maya was relentless, and Ethan knew that if he didn’t address the situation soon, it would only get worse. He had to find a way to resolve things with Maya without risking his marriage to Rachel.
The thought of losing Rachel—of hurting her more than he already had—was unbearable.
When Rachel returned home later that evening, she found Ethan sitting on the porch, lost in thought. She joined him, slipping her hand into his and leaning her head on his shoulder. For a moment, they sat in silence, the cool evening air wrapping around them.

Ethan sighed, squeezing her hand gently

“Just… thinking about how lucky I am to have you,”
He said, his voice sincere.
Rachel smiled, though she sensed there was more on his mind.

Ethan nodded, turning to press a kiss to her temple.

“They really have. I don’t ever want to lose this, Rachel. I don’t ever want to lose you.”

Rachel assured him, her voice steady.

She carefully picked out a flowing, midnight-blue dress that hugged her figure just right and paired it with a pair of silver heels.
As she stood in front of the mirror, she added a touch of makeup—just enough to highlight her natural beauty—and finished the look with a delicate silver necklace that Ethan had given her years ago.
Ethan, in the meantime, chose a crisp white shirt that contrasted perfectly with his dark charcoal suit. He straightened his tie and ran a hand through his hair, feeling a mix of anticipation and guilt. He knew Rachel was looking forward to tonight, and he wanted to make it special for her, even though the thoughts of Maya still lingered in the back of his mind. What if she tell Rachel about them?
When Rachel walked out of their bedroom, Ethan’s breath caught in his throat. She looked stunning, her smile lighting up the room. .

Rachel blushed slightly, feeling the warmth of his compliment.

She replied, walking up to him and adjusting his tie a little.

They headed out of the house, hand in hand. The night air was cool as they walked towards the car. Ethan, ever the gentleman, opened the passenger door for Rachel, who smiled up at him as she slid into the seat. He then walked around to the driver’s side, settled in, and started the car.
As they drove to the restaurant, they chatted about light-hearted topics, both of them enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The city lights twinkled outside as they passed, adding a romantic backdrop to their evening.
