Episode 20

What the hell is Angelo doing here!? I arrive at the hotel, park the car, and run inside. I don't see anyone at the reception until I see Hector entering a room. I run after him.

"Rafael! Hector!" I shout to him as I approach.

"Rafael, hi." He puts his hand on my shoulder.

"Where is he?"

"Here, with Thays."

I walk in. Thays was sitting next to Angelo with her legs crossed, always dressed like a tramp.

"Angelo? What are you doing here!?" Thays uncrosses her legs and gets up. Angelo gets up too.

"Rafael?"

"Yes!"

"I want to see my daughter. You won't let me talk to her."

"Oh, Rafael, keeping a father from his daughter," says Thays.

I look at her angrily! Thays challenges me.

"Angelo, of course, I wouldn't forbid you to see Maya. I just wanted her to get used to her new life, that's all. Then you would see her."

"Please, Rafael, I need to see her!"

"Of course, let's go. I'll take you to your daughter."

"Just remember what I told you," says Thays.

"What did you tell him, Thays?"

"That's our secret." She smiles. How could I have been so blind to this woman?

"Let's go, Angelo."

The two of us leave. Hector follows me.

"Come back anytime, Angelo. We're at your disposal."

I hold my father-in-law's shoulder, not letting him look at them.

"My things are here at the hotel."

"I'll send someone to get you. Stay at my house."

We get in the car. I was indignant, but more afraid of what Thays might have told him.

"What did Thays tell you?"

"That you only married my daughter because of your father, that your true love was her."

"Angelo, in the beginning, I couldn't stand the idea of being married to someone I didn't love, but your daughter is a sweetheart. I wouldn't hurt her like that!"

"Did the wedding already happen?"

"Yes, three days ago."

"How is my girl?"

"Well, you'll see."

We arrived home. Angelo gets out of the car and we go inside.

"Good morning," says Rosa.

"Rosa, this is Angelo, Maya's father!"

"Nice to meet you, Angelo." He extends his hand to her. Rosa shakes it.

Then I hear Maya's voice coming down the stairs.

"Why did you leave in such a hurry, Rafael?" She notices her father's presence.

"Daddy!" She smiles. Her eyes were watering. Maya looked so beautiful in a white dress that highlighted her curves.

"My daughter..."

Maya runs into his arms and hugs him!

"Daddy, what are you doing here?"

"I missed you so much, my daughter. Forgive me, I couldn't rest easy without news."

The two break from their hug. Emotion took over both of them. I don't like the idea of her father being here, but there's not much I can do. He can stay for now, but I won't let him stay here for long.

Dido appears, calling me.

"Sir, I need you to come with me. There's a problem with the shipment."

"What the hell, Dido? Can't you handle it?"

"No, sir."

I take a deep breath, running my hand through my hair.

"Maya, we'll have to postpone the doctor until the afternoon, okay?"

"Sure, I want to stay with my dad!"

"Great!"

I leave, infuriated. If it's not Dom, then things aren't right. I leave with Dido and go to headquarters. I get there and I find Lucas, the son of a Capo from Rome.

"Lucas? What are you doing here?"

"This shipment is mine, Rafael."

"Can I ask why?"

"Your father owes me. I did business with him in exchange for this cargo."

"Well, as you said, you did business with him. I am not him! These drugs are mine! You can release my truck right now!"

I nod to Dido, who immediately dispatches the truck.

"You can't do this or you'll suffer the consequences!"

"Are you threatening me?"

Lucas swallows hard.

"This isn't over, you hear me, Rafael?"

I pull out my gun and point it at him!

"You're not even the Don yet, and you're already making enemies! Are you sure you want me as your enemy?"

Lucas stares at me and leaves the headquarters with his men.

"What the hell!" I start yelling at everyone.

"What the hell is this? Where is the security in this shithole? I want explanations! How does this idiot walk in here and take over?" I yell at them.

"Sir, I'm sorry, when we saw them they were already inside!" says Carlos.

"Sorry my ass! Next time you'll all be out on the street or worse! A bunch of incompetents! Beef up this damn security!"

I leave there irritated. The situation with my father-in-law being here doesn't make things any easier. I spend the rest of the day here, fixing my father's messes. He left and didn't tell me much, I have to make do with what I have. At the end of the night, I didn't even feel like going home, knowing that Maya's father is there. I undo my shirt buttons and have a glass of whiskey. After satisfying myself, I head home, disgruntled. As I'm driving, I pass a bar and there's Vicente talking to Thays. I stop the car immediately.
