Beast

He checked his phone to see the alarm buzzing relentlessly before he switched it off. His boss from the part-time ancient medicine gig had called fifty times, flooding his phone history with missed calls. And how his boss sold him to his step-brother because of a bribe? That was a story for later.

"Hao, you really don't know what it means to live like the dead, right? Since you don't know, I'll help teach you," a man said, spinning around to reveal a pair of black eyes and a menacing grin that upturned his eyes.

"Argh!!" Hao Yu felt something stab through his neck. When he regained consciousness, he found himself in a room. After wandering for a while, he saw an exit but was soon surrounded by people in black – some in shirts and pants, others in suits, but all bore the same tattoo mark on their arms. Hao Yu immediately turned around, pretending not to escape. After numerous failed attempts, he realized five months had passed, then finally decided on his escape plan, escape date, and necessary survival tools.

"Didn't this already happen?" Hao Yu felt goosebumps prickle his skin, shivering as if something slimy was caressing his neck. He jolted, feeling something crushing down on him, forcing his eyes open in shock.

He was met with dark, misty surroundings. He whipped his head around, and his vision cleared. He could now clearly see the grass he was lying on.

"???" What’s going on? Where am I? Didn’t I wake up at the store? No, so it was just from my memories of when I got kidnapped by that big excuse of a brother. He’d devised many ways to make his brother pay for his stupidity, but it was just his imagination of what had happened.

"So I actually time-traveled, or is it transmigrated?". *I thought I was seeing things, but it turned out I wasn't.

Hao Yu wriggled his hands and body. Seeing he could move, he touched the left side of his face, which still ached from when he’d first woken up here. He brought his fingers to his sight, only to see a thick, slimy liquid coating them. Hao Yu gasped, letting out an unrestrained groan.

He flipped his body around, and his leg was instantly held mid-air by something unseen.

"???" What on earth???.

The shadow gripped his left leg and twisted Hao Yu over, leaving him lying on his stomach with his left leg caught in the air and lifted. "Argh!" Hao Yu cried out, then whimpered as he heard a distinct 'crack' sound from his leg, which was still held tightly by this supposed monster.

After a while of struggling, Hao Yu felt out of breath and decided to minimize movement to avoid worsening the pain. He felt the grip on his leg loosen considerably and gathered the courage to forcefully yank his leg back. He whipped his body around to finally see the thing that had held him.
