Without knowing how long had passed exactly, Noah gradually regained his sanity. And as he became aware, he realized he was sitting on someone, as his back leaned against the chest of a man.

And the instant he understood he was sitting on his ex-husband's crippled legs, he tried to get up, fearing to hurt him with his weight. It's just that due to the sudden movement, the alpha possession overcame Jerome in less than a second, and he couldn't help but hold him with both hands, almost anchored on the thin waist.

"Jerome?" He called, with a cautious tone, as he was only wearing a hospital gown that wasn't made of thick fabric; therefore, he could feel the man's body perfectly underneath him. This made him so uneasy that he couldn't stop moving.

"I just need a minute," the alpha whispered, burying his face in the younger man's shoulder. "It's harder than I thought."

"What?" Noah asked, trying to focus on anything other than the man who had been his partner for several years.

"Letting you go."

"You!" the dark-haired man exclaimed, caught off guard by that short phrase. "You shouldn't joke about that, you know? You can confuse people."

Noah was thankful he wasn't facing Jerome, as he felt embarrassed just hearing his words. He didn't want to imagine the shame he would feel if he were looking at him too.

"I've never told anyone this kind of thing before."

"I know… but this time…"

"Except you." The alpha shifted his face and moved closer to the younger man's neck. Their positions couldn't be any closer, and if it weren't for the clothes they were wearing, every part of their bodies would have been in contact.

"It's just compatibility," Noah said, apparently convincing the alpha, although only he knew those words were directed at himself. He kept telling himself that none of it was real, and it all stemmed from an instinctive attraction that overwhelmed them.
