...
Out of the corner of his eye, and feeling irritated, he saw Victor walking towards them, with the obvious intention of picking a fight.
It wouldn't be long before the alpha stuck a sign on his forehead that said "looking for a fight and you're the chosen one."
"With a damn… I wasn't the only one who heard everything", he cursed. In fact, listening to that group bothered him, but he hadn't planned on stopping them. Not out of cowardice, but rather because, at least for today, he was tired of arguing in public. His talent for acting was exhausted until further notice.
Noah almost wanted to hit his forehead and, above all, hit Victor's. He knew that the alpha was impulsive at times. Under his banner of honesty, he could be imprudent and inconvenient. But still, what was he thinking?
He had only been back in his true home for less than an hour, and he already felt confident enough to seek justice for others… or rather, for his wounded pride, was he too self-centered?
With a reluctant heart, he decided to intervene, since he didn't want any more fights that involved him. Especially if he wanted to get out of said banquet as cleanly as possible.
He reached Victor before he started a new scandal and quickly grabbed his arm, pushing him towards Aleida, who was still standing without looking at anyone. When she felt someone next to her, she looked up to meet eyes similar to her own. She almost screamed when she realized it was her real son.
Her heart skipped a couple of beats. If she was honest with herself, she had quite a few mixed feelings after finding out that she got back something that she never even knew she had lost.
She looked at the tall boy, the same one she had scorned a couple of times.
Noah had introduced himself to her since they became friends in high school, and she could see the true feelings of the boy she had raised. At that moment, Aleida knew that things would end with them getting together.
Deep down, she was reluctant for her son to accept someone of lower class as a partner. Life would be more difficult compared to if he had chosen someone of the same standing, yet she never said anything to separate them. She even considered the possibility of her husband taking the boyfriend as an apprentice in the company, so that at least in this way, her son would not distance himself from them and would continue to live according to the lifestyle he was used to.
But now, it seemed that life itself had put her in her place. That boy she underestimated turned out to be her real son.
She saw the young alpha beside her, and was even more surprised when she realized it was the same Noah who was throwing him in her direction.
"Just take him," said the black-haired boy. "I don't want any more scandals today." His voice was cold and distant, Aleida had never received a similar tone of voice from her son, and her heart felt bitter. Was the bond between mother and son so easily broken by a simple piece of paper?
And then she felt like a hypocrite. She herself had been bothered by a single glance at the boy after reading the maternity test, and less than five minutes later she was saddened to receive a bad tone from him?
The omega, better than anyone, knew how sensitive Noah was to his surroundings, so it was obvious that the boy had noticed the way she looked at him in that instant. Aleida never knew her heart was so nasty. In her own perception, she was a kind and intelligent person…it seemed that she didn't have much of that.
"Noah!" Victor refused, grabbing his arm without letting go. The boy looked at him with displeasure. It was obvious that he wanted to be released, so the alpha could do nothing but obey him. "They said bad things about you."
"So what? It's not like they can hurt me with that. Or like I had anything to do with you to begin with."
"You're my boyfriend!"
Noah almost burst into a fit of laughter. He couldn't believe how stupid Victor was to say something like that with such confidence.
"I think you didn't hear me right a few minutes ago. We're NOT anything anymore, not friends, partners, NOTHING," said the boy, emphasizing certain words.
"Noah…"
"Aleida, just take your son and stop him from making a fool of himself," interrupted the black-haired boy, seeing that the alpha was not behaving.
Without giving them another look, he turned and walked away. Being close to them made him feel sick.
The boy returned to his former position, and soon heard the low taunts of the whispering group, and was disgusted. He glared at the group that was losing their fear of death, inviting them to shut up, at least if they wanted to keep their good lives for when night came. He stopped at each one for a few seconds. Anyone could tell they were silly pampered kids at first glance.
Taking a few steps in their direction, he reached them in no time. With a dazzling smile, he greeted the group, who fell silent, slightly intimidated by his presence.
"Isn't it a good sign of fate that the leader of Barlovento came? Why don't you young people take the opportunity to establish a good friendship with my…?" Noah bit his tongue as he almost uttered the word "husband."
"My what?" asked a boy with large ears, as he stared intently at the black-haired man.
Noah got mad at himself. He was so used to defending the alpha at meetings that at some point it had become an unconscious action!
His face flushed. Wanting to hit his forehead, he composed his expression as best he could and cleared his throat.
"Ahem." He feigned a slight coughing fit. "As I was saying, why don't you go introduce yourselves to Leader Barlovento?" he probed disinterestedly, smoothing a couple of nonexistent wrinkles in his white coat.
"How dare we?"
"Why not? He is not a man-eating beast." The discomfort among the group was evident. They were not used to being confronted by the target of their taunts.
"Shouldn't you be worrying about more local matters, young Noah, instead of worrying about us?" said a small big shot among the group. He was a chubby alpha, covered in pimples. Self-confidence was evident, though he obviously had nothing else to brag about than his family name.
The black-haired boy gave him a defiant look and a mocking smile. He recognized him immediately. He remembered a couple of shady stories about the alpha.
In his first life, this boy was accused of harassment and several more serious charges. Many complaints did not proceed because the affected omegas were poor and without any support, and his family always fixed the mess. With that, the alpha became more unhinged, until he offended an omega girl who did have a more powerful family than his.
It was not until that time that she - and all the other victims - were able to get justice. The guy ended up in jail shortly after and his family ruined. It was a shame that despite all this, the young omega could not bear the stigma of what happened and ended her own life.
Noah looked at the young man in front of him. An unpleasant feeling washed over him after being looked at by those disgusting, lustful eyes that seemed to strip him bare. The black-haired man had not come with the intention of fighting, but noticing the disgusting look, he wanted the stupid smile on that ugly face to be erased.
"Worry?" Despite everything, isn't it to my birthday banquet that Leader Barlovento has attended? How many of your banquets has he attended? "The boy scoffed.
