...
—"Jerome!" Angel yelped in fear.
—"Did I allow you?"
—"Leader Barlovento… it's not prudent to speak of that here," exclaimed Angel, clenching his teeth and feeling chills run down his spine. He never thought the man would dare say it in public! He had promised him that they wouldn't announce it until a month later, at the former leader's birthday celebration.
Besides, he only wanted Victor to be stable within the Ballestero family before announcing his break-up with the alpha and having a clear path! And that month was more than enough. But now things had gotten complicated. He hadn't even told his parents yet! He looked at Noah angrily. If it weren't for his stupid provocation, Jerome wouldn't have said anything!
—"Why?" Noah asked anxiously, oblivious to the curses uttered in his honor by the blond.
He was focused on more important matters, like how in his past life the break-up didn't come until two years later. This was too big a time difference, why was that?
He looked at the alpha, feeling scared. What was different? He had barely returned, his presence couldn't interfere with anything yet.
—"Because young Craso and I have nothing in common. There's nothing more," replied Jerome in a calm voice, as if he were talking about the weather.
Noah felt dizzy and could only manage to put the glass to his cheek. The cold woke him up a little.
—"Are you okay, Noah?" Aleida asked, patting him on the back."You're a little pale. Do you need a doctor?"
—"I…"
—"Noah!" Angel shouted, totally furious. It was the first time anyone had seen him out of character. The black-haired boy wanted to laugh at his accomplishment, but the dizziness wouldn't allow it. —"You're ruining everything!" With anger clouding his intelligence, Angel lunged at the boy without considering the consequences.
This was behavior that no one expected from the ever kind and gentle Angel. So when they reacted, the omega was already on top of Noah, tugging at his clothes and scratching his neck. Even, due to the struggle, the black-haired boy had dropped the glass, causing a shrill sound that caught the attention of the few guests who still remained.
—"You're selfish!" he reproached. Some of the younger guests who hadn't left yet, took out their cell phones and started recording. —"If it weren't for you, Victor would have grown up with his family! He and I would have been engaged long ago, and I wouldn't be going through this shame! It's your fault!"
The sweet image that he had created for so long was destroyed by Angel himself with those words. But he didn't seem to care too much about it, and he gave himself over to his fury.
—"Angel, stop!" Aleida shouted, taking a few steps to approach the boys, but Erminia, who had stood beside her at some point, stopped her and made her back away. —"Erminia!"
—"You can't stop them! You'll only get hurt!" Aleida watched helplessly as the two got into the fight.
—"Let go of me," the black-haired boy said, trying not to be provoked by the omega. It's just that Angel didn't appreciate his good intentions and kept touching his bottom line.
—"Why did you have to come into our lives? You're an impostor!" the blond sputtered. His cries began to annoy the boy. And seeing that the other was not reacting, Angel was more unhinged and did not mince his words. —"He never even loved you! He despised you all the time, you know? When he was with me, we even made fun of you!"
Noah wasn't someone easily intimidated, and while he shied away from violence, the omega had irritated him enough. He had to show that he wasn't a weakling. He raised a hand and punched the other man in the cheek, which made him end up on the floor, right next to the broken glass.
—"I wasn't the one who forced you to f*ck Victor when you were already engaged!" Noah declared, oblivious to the audience. And as soon as he said it, he felt a kind of release that made his body feel lighter than ever. Yeah. Violence wasn't the answer, but it felt so good! He should have done this a lifetime ago. —"Don't blame me for not knowing how to keep my legs closed! And for dragging yourself in front of every man who gets in your way! And who cares about your words and mockery?"
Angel became more enraged by the punch and got up from the floor. Without hesitation, he threw a punch at the black-haired boy, which, while not with the same force, was still painful. Noah felt the blood inside his mouth, he had split his lip.
He wiped himself with the sleeve of his jacket and looked at the red stain on the fabric.
—"Ha, for the first time you show who you are, Angel." He sneered, licking his wound.
They didn't have time to exchange more blows, as one of Jerome's bodyguards had approached at some point and separated them.
—"Young men, please stop."
Noah, being a twenty-seven-year-old adult at heart, told himself that it was unwise to continue fighting with an eighteen-year-old brat—though he didn't regret how good it felt after slapping him in the face—so he stopped struggling with the burly man and took a step back.
—"Fine," Noah said, turning around. He didn't want to see the other's unpleasant face. Then he realized that he was facing Jerome, just a step away. He felt stung, but he couldn't back away or he'd bump into the bodyguard.
—"Fine," Angel repeated, rubbing his bruised cheek.
The man lowered his arms and breathed. He didn't want to exert too much force and hurt the boys by accident. That they stopped on their own was best for him.
It was in that moment of relaxation that Angel took advantage and pushed Noah from behind. The omega hadn't realized who the other was in front of, and ended up pushing him on top of the alpha. He was startled when he realized what he had done.
—"I'm sorry!" he yelled, and a second later he ran away like a vile coward. His mother saw him walk away and went after him. The scene itself was too bizarre and more than one camera captured the moment.
—"Damn traitor!" Noah condemned, resting both arms on a strong chest. He froze when he realized where he had fallen. He tried to get up, but a hand was gripping his waist.
The only thing stopping him from losing his mind at that moment was the burning on his lip.
—"I…I…didn't do it…on…purpose," he stammered.
Noah felt the temperature of the place rise dramatically, making it unbearable.
—"I know. He pushed you," Jerome said in a husky voice. His eyes seemed darker than usual, and the boy felt intimidated for the first time.
—"I'm sorry, I've soiled you…" he muttered, feeling his head spinning. For some reason, Jerome's hand tightened on his waist at his words.
""Damn you, Angel, you'll pay me back in blood!""
—"What did you say?"
—"I…I…I have to go!" Noah got up from the man's lap and without looking at anyone, he shot out the door. In a few seconds, he had disappeared.
Jerome looked at his empty hands and a subtle feeling washed over him.
—"Hugo," the alpha called, placing both hands in his lap.
—"Tell me, leader." The beta presented himself almost as soon as the words were finished being spoken. When the boss was too quiet, it was more frightening.
—"Blanket."
—"Excuse me?"
—"I need a blanket," Jerome repeated calmly.
—"Yes?"
—"It's cold."
Hugo remembered that in the morning he had checked the weather report and it had been announced a beautiful sunny day of 71°F for today and the rest of the week. Even if you were outside, you could feel a slight blush in the atmosphere. But the boss was cold and asked for a blanket?
Maybe the air conditioning was too much for the man?
With a couple of doubts, Hugo didn't hesitate and ran to get a blanket from the car. They always carried one just in case, since the boss's physical condition demanded it. It's just that, generally, the blanket was usually used in winter or on cloudy days…
