Adam, observing the three women who were delighting in their meal while sharing laughs, felt irritated, not for their dining within the room, as employees were not forbidden from doing so, but due to the disruption their laughter caused.
"Could you be any louder...!"
His booming voice, laden with emphasis, prompted the trio to clamp their mouths shut instantly. However, Vivi couldn't help but pause mid-bite, her mouth agape, especially upon identifying who had just reproached them.
"If you can't be quiet, perhaps you belong in a zoo...!" Adam continued, his tone cold as his expression remained stoic. Before departing, Adam cast a glance at the two women facing him, and the third whose back was turned to him.
"Who was that?" Disya craned her neck to look behind, but the man had already turned away, visible only from the side as he walked off.
"It's...the CEO." Vivi stammered out.
"I swear, our CEO is so intimidating, Vi, ugh." Dina hugged her arms, picturing the handsome but unsettling Adam.
"Oh please, not this again." Disya resumed eating voraciously.
Speaking of eating, their capacity for food was bottomless, easily polishing off double portions without impacting their waistlines.
"So, Disya, how's work going?" Vivi inquired once they had finished eating, with a spare ten minutes left for a quick chat.
"It's done, but it seems I have a significant matter to address tomorrow," Disya replied with a sigh.
"What do you mean?" Dina's curiosity was piqued.
"Just like you know, I detest deception, especially concerning embezzlement and corruption," Disya explained. "This budget seems linked to the one you two are working on."
Dina and Vivi exchanged looks. "What are you implying?" they asked in unison.
"So they—" Disya shared her suspicions about the financial report detailing overspending on a new project, and she had uncovered irregularities within her own analysis. The suspects seemed likely to manipulate central reports, inflating the budget's figures.
"What's your plan of action then?" Dina asked, intrigued.
"Let's see tomorrow, after I discuss it with my dad," Disya said with a smile.
"Seriously, you'd be better off running the place than your dad, not stuck at a branch office," Vivi noted.
Rising to her feet, Disya grabbed her bag. "Well, fate has its design. Plus, there's a mess at work that I'm itching to tidy up," she said with a smirk.
"Scary," both Dina and Vivi responded in kind, feigning terror.
"Anyway, I should head back to the office," Disya bid farewell with a round of cheek-kisses, aware that fifteen minutes remained before break's end.
"Bye..." Disya waved.
"Take care, Sya. Bye..." Dina and Vivi returned Disya's wave.
As Disya made her way to the central lift on the ninth floor, she noted that the finance department was to the left and the CEO's office to the right.
Disya entered, thanks to her access card from Adhitama Group, which granted her exit authority.
Upon the lift doors opening, Disya stepped in but stumbled, spilling her bag contents across the floor.
Thud
"Oh, my apologies, I'm in a bit of a rush," another woman said, helping to gather Disya's scattered items.
"No worries at all," Disya responded, joining in.
"Sorry once again," the woman bowed apologetically.
"It's fine," Disya smiled.
The woman entered the elevator first, followed by Disya.
Unbeknownst to them, something remained underneath a nearby flowerpot as the employee lift doors closed, concurrently with the executives' lift opening.
Adam and Arfin exited the lift on the ninth floor.
Walking side-by-side, Adam's downward gaze led him to notice an object on the floor.
"What's that you found, Dam?" Arfin inquired, observing Adam stoop for something.
"What's this?" Arfin approached closer. "An ID card?" he remarked.
Adam scrutinized the identity card in his hands.
"Read the name aloud," Arfin suggested.
The man complied, and for some reason, Adam suddenly seemed concerned with this personal document – a peculiar deviation for him.
"Disya Fanesya Handoko," Arfin announced.
Driven by curiosity, Adam flipped the card to the photo side.
His eyes widened in shock, "This," Adam faltered, his hands trembling with Disya's card.
"What's wrong, Dam? You look stunned," Arfin remarked.
Smack
"Why'd you hit me?" Arfin touched his face, befuddled.
"Damn it...!!" Without further words, Adam dashed for the emergency stairs. Opting against the elevator would be faster, and he charged down the steps.
"Adam, are you mad? Why the stairs when there's a lift?" Arfin called out, confused by his friend's behavior.
Gasping for air in the lobby, Adam scanned for Disya but to no avail. In frustration, he ran his fingers through his hair and focused on the card in his hand.
"Even if you evade our encounters, it is destiny that will unite us," Adam confidently murmured, gazing at Disya's photo.
