Adam stared at the two-story house across the street, having spent the past ten minutes seated in his car, which was parked opposite.
Whatever he was waiting for remained a mystery, but at the very least he hoped to catch a glimpse or discern something from his vantage point.
Before long, a car pulled up in front of the modest gate. Adam straightened his posture for a clearer view.
The sound of a car horn honking several times broke the silence, likely a signal for the guard to open the gate, yet despite the wait, the gate remained shut, and someone emerged from behind the wheel.
Adam's heart pounded at the sight of a woman he knew all too well, a woman who lingered in his thoughts, and for reasons unknown, one night in London remained etched in his memory, especially since he had been rather reckless. Adam's only fear was the possibility of her being pregnant and denying his paternity.
From a distance, Adam could see Disya's annoyed expression, probably exacerbated by the delay in opening the gate.
"Pak Gandi is slow, making me irritated," Disya said as she walked past the gate, pushed by a man in a security uniform.
"My apologies, miss, I just had to deal with something in the back," the man named Gandi replied with a laugh.
Without delay, Disya drove into the driveway and Gandi closed the gate behind her.
Adam smirked, oblivious to the fact that he had turned into a stalker that afternoon.
"Alright, now you can't escape me," Adam smirked, a grin stealing across his face.
"Sya, are you home?" Diana greeted her daughter as she walked into the house.
"Yes, Mom, is Dad not back yet?" Disya asked while shaking her mother's hand.
"He is, he's working in his study," Diana replied. "Why do you ask?" she continued, sensing her daughter's troubled demeanor. "Is something wrong?"
"Um," Disya paused thoughtfully. "I ran into Sir Dino today, Mom." She let out a sigh. "And as I've said before, I wanted to complete my education, and now that I have, Sir Dino is still waiting for my decision." Disya looked worriedly at her mother.
In the past, Disya had been in a relationship with Dino, and at the time, she hadn't finished her studies when Dino proposed to her. By convincing Dino to wait, Disya was able to complete her studies undisturbed. He had reluctantly agreed to her request on the condition that Disya wouldn't reject him later.
"Do you want to accept Dino now?" Diana inquired, cognizant of her daughter's uneasiness.
"To be honest, I was happy to see Sir Dino again, but..."
Disya couldn't possibly reveal that her hesitation stemmed from that night in London when she had casually let go of something precious with a man she didn't know. She had no idea who she had been with that one night.
"Sya..." Diana touched Disya's shoulder. "You're daydreaming."
Disya snapped back to reality. "Sorry, Mom, I'll talk about this with Dad later," she deflected to avoid her mother's suspicion.
"Okay, go freshen up."
Disya nodded and headed to her room.
She immediately began to clean up, stepping into the bathtub. It had been an exhausting day filled with preparations, and tomorrow she faced an unexpected challenge at work. The thought of being accused of manipulation made her head throb slightly.
Even the financial director at her office was pleased with the revised work she had submitted, where she had uncovered several discrepancies in the figures.
But her resolve was firm; she was determined to uncover who was behind the fraudulent acts, even if it meant risking her career.
After an hour of wrestling with her thoughts and unintentionally falling asleep in the bathtub—a habit when fatigue took over—
Disya came downstairs when dinner was ready, only to be surprised to find Dino conversing with her parents at the dining table. Fortunately, she had already spoken to her mother about him.
"There's Disya," Diana pointed out as her daughter approached the table.
Dino's smile broadened upon seeing the woman who had long occupied his heart now within close reach.
"Sir Dino, you're here?" Disya asked, managing a surprised smile to mask her astonishment.
"I happened to pass by, but I made it a point to stop here," Dino replied with a warm smile.
"I didn't know you worked with Dino; I thought he wasn't at your office," said Disya's father, noting the connection between his daughter and Dino, longstanding friends.
Disya took a seat beside her mother, facing Dino across the table.
"I just found out today, Dad, that Sir Dino works there," Disya said, locking eyes with Dino.
An unfamiliar sensation stirred within her, something she couldn't quite explain.
"I transferred to a larger branch just over two years ago, and I'm grateful, Uncle, for the chance to see Disya there," Dino said, shifting his gaze between Frans and Disya.
"So you two are planning to continue the relationship that was put on hold two years ago?" Diana blurted out, causing Disya to be taken aback, her heart racing.
Dino kept his eyes on Disya, who was now looking down.
"If Disya agrees, I'd like to rekindle our relationship and take it to a more serious level," Dino proclaimed, prompting Disya to look up at him. The two-year wait was not short, and being reunited today was an opportunity to conclude their interrupted affair.
Disya found herself at a loss for words, her tongue tied, making speech difficult. She knew all too well how earnestly Dino loved her, and the look of love remained vivid in his eyes.
"Your father and I can't decide for you. It's all in your hands, Disya, and as parents, we just want to see you happy," Frans said, offering his daughter a reassuring smile, encouraging her to make her choice.
"It's up to you, dear," he continued. "We'll respect your decision if it's for the best."
Disya's dilemma deepened. On one hand, she still wanted Dino by her side; on the other, she feared he might not accept her past. Yet she believed that true love would remain unaltered by such revelations. All that remained was to see how Dino would react to her honesty. Shouldn't a relationship be founded on truth? Disya intended to prove just that.
"But there's something I need to tell Sir Dino first," she finally murmured.
Everyone looked at Disya, curiosity etched on their faces, especially Dino's, which was filled with anticipation.
