In a room where only ten people were present, and before them was a table and four chairs, all were unoccupied as the interview wouldn't start for another ten minutes.
"Gosh, why is my heart pounding like I'm about to meet my crush?" said Vivi, touching her chest.
"You're being dramatic, Vi," Dina chided.
Vivi just pouted. "Whatever," she retorted.
"Stop bickering like preschoolers, look—they're coming in." Disya indicated with the corner of her eye as the door of the hall opened and four people entered, the same ones who would be questioning them later.
"There's the handsome guy's assistant," remarked Dina upon spotting Arfin.
"As if you know him," Vivi teased.
Now it was Dina who pouted but didn't get a chance to respond as the man in front began to speak.
Their interviews began, and they stepped forward one by one as their names were called.
Disya waited for her turn, feeling nervous about her first interview.
"Sir, report the budget expenditure we need to allocate."
Adam received the folder offered by the middle-aged man sitting in front of him.
Carefully, Adam reviewed the figure written in the folder.
Seeing the details that were, as usual, impeccable, all that was left was for Adam to sign it off.
"I agree with the budget you've prepared," he stated, adding his signature.
The man just nodded. Observing Adam closely, the man had a thought.
"Don't you intend to find a replacement for me?" asked Frans after Adam finished signing the documents.
Adam looked up, one eyebrow raised. "Do you have an issue with extending your employment?" Adam countered.
Frans sighed deeply. "I am getting old, and I should have retired two years ago," said Frans.
Indeed, Frans Handoko, Disya's father, worked under the Adhitama Group. He had served the Adhitama residency for a long time to the point of being familiar with everything concerning the company and knowing Nathan Adhitama well. Therefore, neither Nathan nor Adam was ready to replace Frans. Although his age far exceeded the working age, Frans' abilities were still utilized by the company, and they were searching for a suitable replacement for him, particularly someone who was not only meticulous but also honest, especially for a financial director like Frans.
Adam too sighed, leaning back in his chair.
"Uncle, as you know, it's not easy to fill the position you're holding," said Adam, dropping the formalities.
Frans nodded, "I understand, but no one knows their time, so it's best if you prepare my replacement. If ever I am unable to continue, you won't be left scrambling for a replacement," Frans advised.
Adam appeared thoughtful, realizing he hadn't considered this before. The company relied heavily on Frans' professionalism.
"Consider it, my boy. As long as I am capable, I will carry out my duties," Frans stood, smiling at Adam. "I hear there's a new employee interview today, one of them for the finance department?" asked Frans.
Adam looked at the elder man he knew well and nodded.
Frans smiled again. "If you choose the right candidate among those women, I'm confident she could take my place."
Frans' words made Adam frown. "A woman? Who?" asked Adam curiously.
Frans chuckled. "I won't tell you, but one of them is my candidate, that is if you make the right choice."
Frans spoke casually, leaving the room after taking the signed documents.
Adam became even more intrigued by the finance director's statement but was also confused about who Frans might be referring to.
"A woman? Why does it have to be a woman?" he mumbled, his thoughts wandering.
Recalling Frans' earlier words, Adam decided to leave his office.
Driven by curiosity about Frans Handoko's comment, Adam entered the elevator heading to the fifth floor. He waited impatiently for the elevator to descend, anxious as the interviews were soon concluding.
Adam stepped out of the elevator when the doors opened, heading toward the interview room for the new employees.
He halted in surprise as the door swung open from within.
"Hey, Mr. Adam, what are you doing here?" asked Arfin, who had opened the door from inside.
"Where are the interviewees?" Adam asked, peering inside.
Some staffers behind Arfin greeted their senior manager and departed.
"They're done," Arfin stated, showing his luxury watch to Adam. "It's way past lunchtime, plus I'm done and, frankly, I'm hungry," said Arfin, sighing.
Adam rubbed his face, causing Arfin to grow curious.
"What's the matter?" Arfin asked, walking alongside Adam.
The two walked back to their respective offices, accustomed to having lunch in their rooms when at the office.
"Nothing," Adam replied.
"Don't even try to hide what you can't from me. I was the first to know about your romantic feelings, so what else would you try to conceal?"
Bang
"Arfin, damn you..!" Adam cursed, punching Arfin's arm hard.
"Damn it, Dam, it's Arfin, not Arifin," Arfin cursed back, feeling the pain in his arm since Adam didn't hold back with his punch.
Adam didn't care and walked away, leaving Arfin to enter his office.
Arfin's words only reminded him of that steamy night, and Adam couldn't forget it even now.
Adam threw himself into his oversized chair, closing his eyes and massaging his forehead.
The vision of a beautiful woman moaning underneath him with a sexy expression flashed back into his memory.
"Don't go slow, faster ah*."
The woman's gasping voice echoed clearly in his ears, so vivid that Adam had memorized their heated encounter in his mind.
At the time, Adam was fully aware of what he was doing, reacting solely to the effects of an aphrodisiac, unlike Disya, who was heavily intoxicated, making it seem like a dream for her.
"Ah yes, that feels so good… keep going…ahh*."
"*Damn it..!!" Adam suddenly opened his eyes, cursing as their passionate affair became even clearer in his mind.
Grabbing his phone, Adam opened the gallery that he had specially saved in a format which no one else could access but himself.
Adam stared at a few photos he had taken that night, a thrilling night in London. Reminiscing stirred a desire to return there just to relive that evening, but he realized she was likely not there anymore.
While browsing the gallery, Adam unconsciously touched himself, growing increasingly aroused.
"Engh, you are indeed beautiful," Adam whispered, gazing at a candid shot of Disya, recalling how he made her scream beneath him, loving her expression that was so sexy and enticing.
"Oh no.. this isn't right." Adam abruptly withdrew his hand and hurried into his private room.
"Good Lord, Adam, what am I doing, ah shh."
Adam leaned back, pumping his hand rapidly as he stood in front of the closet, images looping on a slideshow that he had created – dozens of photos of Disya's provocative expressions that drove Adam's wild fantasies to fruition.
"Arrghh.."
Adam's breathing hastened, feeling electrified by Disya's tempting photos that fueled his weakness. All this time, those images of Disya were his secret indulgence.
Adam cursed himself, panting.
"You are mine," he breathed heavily.
.
.
"Don't be glum, we can still hang out during lunch," Dina consoled, patting Disya's hand.
Since exiting the interview room, Disya had looked downcast.
"Right, we're at the same company even if in different locations," Vivi chimed in.
Disya sighed, "But I'm still the only one separated, while you two are together." She pouted in frustration.
She wanted to protest but couldn't. After the interviews were over, the job placements were instantly announced, and Disya was assigned to a branch office in finance with one male colleague who had struck up a conversation with her before.
Meanwhile, Vivi and Dina were positioned in finance at headquarters, but only Dina was in the main office while Vivi and another were in different sections.
"We will still be struggling together, even if in different places. Believe me, we'll stay tight-knit no matter where we are," Vivi commented wisely.
Hearing this made them nod. Disya managed a faint smile, letting go of her frustration about being separated from her friends, especially since she had been sure she'd be placed at headquarters—not because of her father's position, but out of self-assurance.
What they didn't know was that the branch office needed someone like Disya more desperately because there they hadn't fully trusted the finance director yet. Disya was placed in the branch with the prior considerations in mind before the decision.
And if a trusted person like Frans was still managing headquarters…
