It's been a week since Disya started her job at the main branch office, which is a fair distance from her home. It takes her forty-five minutes to commute to work.
"Hey Sya, how about we grab lunch at the restaurant across the street today?" Dimas, whose desk is diagonally across from Disya's, suggested.
Disya looked up, still busy working on the reports her finance manager requested. To her, some of them seemed incorrect.
"Sorry Dim, I'm swamped with work," Disya replied.
Dimas was the man Disya met in the main office lobby on the day of her interview.
And it was Dimas who got the opportunity to work at the branch office with Disya, under the banner of Adhitama Group.
"It's a pity, Sya. It's been a month since we've worked together and we've never had the chance to eat together," Dimas said with a sad face.
"Sorry Dim," Disya simply grinned in response to Dimas' statement.
Since yesterday, she had been tasked by the finance manager to correct the reports, but Disya had revised them twice already and each time incurred her superior's wrath because they weren't as expected. Such situations could cause Disya considerable stress.
She tried to itemize the figures as her boss required, as the reports were due the next day and had to be submitted to headquarters.
"If this continues, the losses could mount," Disya murmured quietly.
Disya thought hard about correcting the skewed figures in the financial report, convinced that these discrepancies had been happening for some time.
The young woman pondered on exposing their deceit without drawing too much attention. As a new employee, would she be believed?
Regardless, she only wanted to do the right thing, even if it risked her job.
"The report for tomorrow looks good to me, take a look," Vivi handed over the monthly financial report that their superior had asked to be detailed more precisely.
"Okay, I'll check it now," Dina took the report from Vivi. They both worked under Frans Handoko, who was Disya's father. Initially, they were surprised to see their friend's father as the finance director, not expecting to work under Disya's father's supervision.
Dina and Vivi were understandably pleased; they were comfortable with someone familiar, even though they maintained professionalism within the company. However, to them, Frans had become like a father figure.
"Hopefully, Disya can finish her report by tomorrow. Considering what Disya has shared, it looks like they've been manipulating it for quite some time," Vivi remarked, thinking of her struggling friend.
"Poor Disya. Don't forget to remind her to join us for lunch today," said Dina.
"Yeah, I already reminded her. She said she's on her way here," Vivi glanced at her watch. Half an hour remained until their lunch break, and Disya would join them at the office.
"It's unusual for her to get away early, especially at lunchtime," Dina commented.
Dina and Vivi's desks were adjacent, so they were quite close.
"Disya calls it a 'bribe'," Vivi giggled in response.
"That Disya," laughed Dina, "her boss still has no clue who his subordinates really are."
Meanwhile, in front of the towering building, Disya had just stepped out of her car and walked into the lobby to meet her two friends, ten minutes ahead of the lunch break, carrying a bag of food to share.
"Good afternoon, which floor are Ms. Dina and Ms. Vivi's office on?" Disya asked the receptionist.
"May I ask what it's regarding?" the receptionist inquired, noting Disya's appearance.
"Oh, just delivering an order," Disya replied.
"It's on the 9th floor."
"Thanks," Disya smiled and moved to take the elevator that would take her to the ninth floor.
Disya pressed the button for the ninth floor, waiting for the elevator to reach its destination. Once she stepped out, she turned left and made her way toward her friends' office.
"Holaaa...!!"
"Wow, look what the cat dragged in!" exclaimed Vivi cheerfully.
Disya's smile vanished as she replaced it with a feigned glare at Vivi.
"Damn you, Vi," Disya scolded with a mock ferocity.
"Chill, Sya. She needs a reward."
The three women burst out laughing, loud enough to spark curiosity in someone who had just stepped out of his office.
The lunch break was typically a quiet time, with most employees out for lunch or engaged in other activities. It wasn't common for the finance staff's area to be filled with laughter.
The man approached the lively room, annoyed enough to see for himself.
Standing at the open door, Adam could only glare at the three women enjoying their lunch in their workspace.
"You guys..!"
