Alucard, had he been a dragon rather than a vampire at that moment, would have been breathing fire through his nostrils. The human before him stammered a flood of apologies yet did nothing to rectify his problem. He owned a conglomerate with business spread nationwide, including the shopping center among others, and now this inept man couldn't locate a mere child.
"If you don't find my son in the next few seconds..." Alucard bellowed, again exasperated. "This mall will turn to rubble..." His words were laced with scorn as well as irritation. "Not just dust... this will become your final resting place, along with all these humans ambling around here."
"Pl...please calm down... Mr. Alucard..." The mall manager trembled like a leaf in the wind. "All the security personnel are searching for Carlinhos." Swallowing hard, he stood from his office chair, preparing a cup of chamomile tea. Holding his breath, he gestured to Alucard, attempting to offer the natural tranquilizer to the chairman of the Solac Group. "He'll be here soon, I'm certain of it."
"To preserve your well-being..." Alucard snarled glaring at the mall manager, nearly transforming. "And that of everyone here..." He roughly pushed away the cup from himself and added. "His arrival had better be swift."
He had spent the recent years amassing a fortune, infiltrating society, moving among humans, secretly hoping to learn of Susana; her trail had vanished since that night. Not even searching by her given name turned up any leads, and he had followers worldwide. He deeply wished she had changed her name and was safe, happy, despite being far from him and their son. Because the alternative tore at his heart. The wolves could have caught her and without a trace, the worst might have happened.
Shaking his head, he uttered a growl of impatience; he could not lose his son now, too, not over a nonsensical fit. He could have given Carlinhos what he wanted, but the child needed to understand there were limits. The live animals at home didn't last long; his bloodthirst not fully under control, he always ended up weeping when the creature stopped moving.
"Effective today..." Alucard faced the ashen man before him. "I want no pet stores here." Snarling, he stood an inch away from the mustachioed man who nearly fainted at his threatening stance. "Do we understand each other?"
"Ye...Yes, Sir!" The man stuttered, nearly collapsing to his knees, the president of the Solac Group exuding an eerie aura that almost made him pass out from the power it wielded. "As you wish!!"
"Sir!!! Sir!!!" A mall messenger arrived breathlessly. "We've found him!!!" He cautiously addressed the chairman of Solac Group, who stared with all the hope in the world on his shoulders and stammered. "He... he's at reception, with a young lady."
"Thank Heaven!!!" The mall director fell to his knees, tears dancing in his eyes. Alucard regarded him impatiently, and the director nearly sprouted wings as he shot up to lead him to the spot.
"Carlinhos!!!" Alucard, catching a glimpse of his son, nearly yelled in irritation, ready to scold. But seeing him safe, running towards him, his heart eased, and he stooped to embrace him tightly. "My rebellious son..." He inhaled deeply, declaring, "You know you shouldn't vanish this way..."
"It was your fault..." Carlinhos grinned at seeing his father but still grimaced after releasing him.
"You know the rules..." Alucard shook his head, frustrated. "No living creatures in the house!"
"But this time I wasn't going to drink..." Carlinhos attempted to argue.
"You always say that..." Alucard murmured softly. Distracted by the young lady departing the information counter, he quickly tries to intercept her. "Miss!!!" Alucard called to have the woman face him before leaving. He needed to express his gratitude; without her, they might all have met their demise. "Let me reward you." But as he drew nearer, a delightful scent invaded his nostrils. Disbelieving what his soul was suggesting, he feared he was facing another cruel twist of fate unless she was the woman he had been searching for. He held his breath as she finally turned; his heart stopped for an instant.
"No need." Susana slowly turned around her face flushed with emotions long forgotten. A shiver traveled down her neck just from hearing the male voice behind her. "I'm just relieved nothing bad happened." She moistened her lips, noting the man's handsomeness.
"Is it really you..." Alucard was so astonished that he let the words slip aloud unwittingly. Fixating on the beautiful woman before him, he scrutinized every feature to ensure he was not hallucinating. His eyes lit up with waves of emotion.
"Daddy..." Carlinhos smirked, tugging at the sleeve of his suit multiple times until Alucard snapped out of his daze. "I'm not in trouble, am I?"
"Of course, you are..." Alucard answered automatically; he didn't want to divert his gaze from Susana, fearing he would lose her again.
"That's not fair..." Carlinhos crossed his arms, a pout forming. "I found Mommy..."
"Carlinhos..." Susana let out a nervous laugh, finally breaking from the trance of the attractive man's gaze. "I've told you..." She stroked his face tenderly, her voice laced with bashful emotion. "Your mommy would be sad to hear that..."
"We lost her..." Alucard stiffened at the words just spoken. His emotions surged upon realizing that even Carlinhos recognized their mother. However, with them reunited, he had to be cautious not to startle Susana. His gaze remained locked onto the woman he longed to have by his side, adding somberly. "A long time ago."
"I'm sorry..." Susana's heart clenched, witnessing the anguish on Carlinhos' father's face.
"The day we were finally to be together, she vanished..." Alucard steadfastly gazed upon Susana's face. "But I never gave up hope... of finding her one day." He edged closer, taking her hand and kissing the soft skin before declaring, "My name is Alucard..."
"Susana... Rezende..." She blushed at his intimate gesture, her timid smile meeting his gaze as she inadvertently spoke. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Susana..." Alucard was at a loss for words to describe his feelings. His eyes sparkled intensely, and without shifting from her soft lips, he confidently declared, "I'll do everything to make this a reality."
