Alucard remained seated in front of his desk, gazing over important documents, yet at that moment, his scattered focus offered him little assistance in resolving any outstanding matters.
He should have been absorbed in the affairs of his companies, eager to blend in with humans, to enter society with wealth and power so that Susana could stand by his side without any discomfort, but he was unable to do so. His soul languished there and then, devoid of the will to perform any task until his beloved was under his care. Glancing at the crib beside him, he admired the tiny being who continued to sleep, oblivious to the turmoil in his father’s mind. Shaking his head, he picked up his cell phone.
"Ambrosio, where is Marly?" Alucard inquired, his impatience evident in the call to his butler. He could have shouted, as his mansion was vast, and his servants would have heard him well enough, but he preferred not to awaken his son who was content for once. Lately, the child had been crying more due to the thirst for human blood, and it was crucial to cherish the moments when he was satisfied with his father's blood and formula.
"Marly has just arrived from the hospital, sir," Ambrosio, who had served as Alucard's butler for over fifteen years, announced immediately, his voice tense as he sensed his master grinding his teeth. He could not see Alucard, but the tone of his voice said it all.
"And why hasn't she come to see me yet? May I ask?" Frustrated, Alucard rose to his feet, his voice raised in annoyance, nearly punching the desk. "She knows how eager I am for news."
"She's just arranging the blood... for our little Carlinhos," Ambrosio stammered, feeling Alucard's growing wrath.
"Did she manage it?" Alucard's eyes widened, and he sank back into his chair, relief settling in as he looked at his son and smiled more calmly. "How many bags?"
"About ten... Sir!" Ambrosio declared, glancing at his phone as if bracing for a bad reaction.
"Excellent!" Alucard said, exhaling a sigh of relief. "For now, that will suffice."
"Very well, Sir!" Ambrosio released the breath he'd been holding; Alucard was a good master, but he knew how lethal he could be when provoked. "Marly will see you shortly."
"Alucard…" Marly appeared just as her Master ended the cell phone call.
"So, any news?" Alucard lifted his gaze to his faithful follower, eager for updates on his wife.
"Susana has been discharged," Marly reported with a smile, witnessing her Master's face brighten with the good news. "We'll arrange surveillance at her place immediately."
"No need…" Alucard rose from his chair, donning his coat, and headed straight for the door. "I will go for her myself."
"It's not wise without first checking if the wolves haven't caught wind of your connection. Didn't you mention they nearly stopped monitoring the clinic?" Alucard raised an eyebrow, eyeing Marly, puzzled.
"Yes... most have disappeared," Marly replied, tensing up, aware that Alucard was now solely focused on the human woman, not the welfare of his clan, which should always come first. "But one remains, hidden, waiting to see you return." She sighed, stating simply, "That human... I meant..." She swallowed hard when Alucard clenched his teeth, glaring as if cursed. Choosing her next words carefully, she added, "Susana... she needs to be protected…" The fear that this woman could become her Master's weakness was clear in her mind. Taking a deep breath, she stood firm. "I will personally check the perimeter. Just wait for a call," she insisted, looking confident. "All clear, and I'll notify you, alright?"
"What are you waiting for?" Alucard crossed his arms over his chest, his brow furrowed as he faced Marly.
"It will only be a few minutes," Marly smiled nervously, vanishing almost immediately.
"Carlinhos…" Alucard strode towards his son's crib. Gently caressing his forehead, he grew thoughtful. "Today you'll finally meet your mother..." Not only did Susana require his utmost protection, but so did his son, and he was prepared to fight for them if necessary. Despite being a hybrid with powers, at this young age, he was defenseless. He needed to keep his family safe, here in his mansion, with his clan, forever near.
"Master!!!" Marly burst in panting, unexpectedly reappearing in Alucard's office.
"What are you doing here?" Alucard growled, irritated. "Didn't you say you were going to check Susana's house yourself?"
"Yes... yes, I did..." Marly tensed up, noting Alucard's eyes turning red. "But... they... they're not there."
"What do you mean?" Alucard was taken aback, then filled with concern. "Didn't you say Susana was discharged from the hospital?"
"She was!!!" Marly bit her lip. "But the house is up for sale and…" Shaking her head, she averted her gaze, noticing Alucard's shift from fury to apprehension.
"And???" Alucard pressed her fiercely, his jaw clenched.
"And the neighbor mentioned..." Marly swallowed. "She saw something strange..."
"Strange how?" Moving with supernatural speed, he gripped her shoulders, his gaze blazing with anger. "What happened to Susana?" His loyal follower tensed, falling silent for a few moments before he shook her, as if forcing her to spit out the words he dreaded to hear, yelling impatiently, "SPEAK UP, MARLY!!!"
"I... actually... don't know," Marly sighed in frustration. "The neighbors said Susana's mother loaded suitcases into a car..." Alucard released her shoulders, defeated, and she felt a pang of pain at the sight of his grief-stricken expression. "But they don't know where they went..." Shaking her head, she added apologetically, "I'm sorry, Master. I searched the surroundings but..." Her gaze fixed on Alucard as she added, "They... disappeared..."
Alucard stood frozen for a time as if the ground had vanished beneath his feet. He couldn't believe he had lost his wife just when happiness seemed so close. Vanishing without a trace, he set off to search the city, determined to find Susana, be it in that city or another—no matter if it meant going... to the ends of the earth.
