Laura stands up and I see her nervous, but I don't smell anything strange beyond the usual smells, and that's when a tall, muscular blonde emerges from the bushes at the edge of the forest, and it's clear to everyone that he's an alpha.
They stare at each other, as the blonde freezes as soon as he sees her and drops the huge logs he was carrying for firewood on his shoulder, rushing towards Lau with large strides. She's petrified, and when he's so close to her that only centimeters separate them, he claims "MINE" in a deep, grave voice, looking intensely at Lau, who is astonished.
He embraces her possessively, and I see my Lau, nervous and scared, but she can't refuse. I stand up to stop him, but Alenka grabs my wrist and makes me sit back down.
"Annia, he is her mate, let them understand each other. He is Theo, an alpha, but a really good guy. I assure you, he won't harm you," Alenka makes me feel like a meddler who is about to ruin the moment.
"But Alenka, Lau is scared, and it's because she has had a problem and he doesn't know," I become anxious because I don't want Lau to be scared of her partner because of her previous trauma.
"Annia, he will know what to do, let them figure it out themselves," Alenka is partly right, and I hope it turns out that way.
Theo takes Lau farther away, and they talk for a while until I see Lau crying like a child. I assume she's telling him everything, and I can see that he's outraged because his expression changes from terror to one of care and understanding in an instant.
Theo embraces her tenderly and whispers something in her ear. My Lau clings to his neck, crying, and he hugs her with so much affection that it touches me. My Lau has found her mate, and he seems like a great werewolf who will take care of her.
Lau approaches us and asks me to talk for a moment. I move away with her to speak.
"Ani, he is my mate, and he wants me to go with him to his cabin so that we can get used to each other. He promised me that he won't do anything I don't want, and I don't know why, but I believe him. I don't want to leave you alone," my friend still has tears wetting her lashes, and I can't refuse. She needs to find her happiness now.

Alenka offers to spend the night in my cabin because she doesn't want me to spend the first night alone, but I refuse since her mate is there, and it wouldn't be fair to separate them.
We talk about a few more things, and Alenka takes me to where the showers, or rather the tubs for bathing, are located. We prepare everything because I feel like everything smells and it's not roses.
Alenka gets into one of the tubs, which are made of wood with a resin coating to prevent water leakage, and I get into the other one while we continue talking about what has happened.
Alenka is telling me how they escaped from the usurper's henchmen, and she looks at me suddenly, as she was previously distracted with her tub, and when she sees my mark, she freezes.
I don't understand the meaning of my mark, but it seems that Alenka does, as she is in a trance.
"Alenka, do you know what the symbol of my mark means? I don't remember which pack I belong to, so it would be useful if you know something," I look attentively at Alenka, who blinks several times as if trying to come out of her reverie.
"Um... Ania, hasn't your mate told you?" she continues staring at my mark, astonished, as she speaks.
"No, actually, I don't know who he is because he doesn't let me see him or his identity, so I don't know which pack he belongs to. I just know that he's an alpha," I speak softly, almost as a whisper, embarrassed to admit that I don't know my mate.
"Oh, I see. So your mark is not actually from a pack, Annia, it is from a lineage, and a very ancient and rare one. With these words, I am scared, confused, and curious. What is happening?"
