I look distressed at Laura, who looks expectant, and I have no choice but to tell her what's going on. She stares at me with her mouth open, and her tears start to fall.
I am equally devastated. His Majesty has died, and I start crying more than Laura. Our whole world is disappearing because of a greedy wretch.
We have to make decisions, but suddenly the doorbell rings, and we both startle, placing a hand on our chests. I go to the peephole, and it's an older but charismatic woman. I open the door slowly, and she looks me up and down as if I have two heads.
"Are you Annia Drusso?" she asks, smiling.
"Yes, I am. How can I help you?" I'm more curious now.
"My name is Fenecia Saenz, and I am a witch from the coven. I have come to find you."
Now my neurons are fried because I don't understand anything anymore. What is a witch doing looking for a werewolf in broad daylight? This is getting stranger by the moment.
She looks at me with a smile, seeing my dumbfounded expression, and decides to enter without an invitation, sitting on the couch.
"I come on behalf of your Lord. He has asked me to take you to a safe place since the shapeshifters are in trouble, and he doesn't want to expose you. Everything is chaos now, and we must be cautious. Your Lord is worried that you won't be able to hide well enough among humans, so he has sent me to find you and take you to a safe place, or at least a place that will be safe until this is resolved. The usurper has been sending renegades and rebels to find all the members of the kingdom, and I'm afraid they would eventually find both of you. So, girls, pack your things; we must leave."
I blink several times and bombard her with all sorts of questions that are breaking my brain, and if she has seen him, she might be able to clarify many things before my anxiety kills me.
"Is he okay? Do you know who he is? Do you know his name? Where is he? Can you take me to him?" But Fenecia looks at me with pity and shakes her head.
"Darling, I can't tell you all that. I can only take you to a safe place while this settles. Alright?" It makes my heart shrink; I have no answers from anywhere.
I recover and ask for more explanations.
"How do I know that you come from him and won't take us to the killer king?" In times of war, one must be mistrustful.
"Of course, I can prove it. Ahem... 'Little pup, stop being spoiled and do what I ask.'" That is the message he sent you." Well, if that's him, there's no doubt.
I politely nod to Fenecia and go to pack my things, and Laura does the same. We both go outside and see a cute minivan with beautiful but strange drawings all over the body.
Fenecia explains that they are spells to go unnoticed, but we must hurry. The usurper's Lycans are close, and we need to move quickly.
We arrange our things and get in a hurry, and Fenecia drives off at full speed, giving us some recommendations.
"Girls, I want you to hide your scent, and don't speak when you see danger. Not a whisper. And do everything I tell you. The usurper is looking for the seal that will give him absolute power among the packs, but he hasn't found it yet, so everyone is suspicious to him." Fenecia speaks with confidence, and I am more anxious for my companion. I just hope he's alright.
As we leave the city, we venture into rural roads that lead into dense forest, passing through difficult and complicated paths. What I find amusing is that the minivan navigates these stretches as if it were a powerful 4x4 off-road vehicle that is not hindered by anything, or maybe it just appears simple because of a spell, but it's actually a Land Rover.
We pass through some very suspicious areas and see a group of werewolves lurking. While I freeze, and Laura pales with fear, we pass by unnoticed, with Fenecia gesturing for absolute silence by placing her finger to her lips.
