We arrived at a place where there is no longer a path. It is really difficult to progress because there isn't even a trail to walk on.
Phoenicia silently gets off and signals for us to unload our bags. We follow her even though I have no idea where to go, as I can't see a way through. She only approaches the thick forest undergrowth, and it opens up like a trail for her. "In my next life, I want to be a witch. It's really cool."
We follow her and venture into the forest, farther than I've ever been, and I don't believe many have reached such depths. What surprises me is that as soon as we pass the trail, it closes as if nothing happened.
I look at my dear Laura, exhausted from carrying her luggage, and I know she must regret bringing so many foolish things like her hair straightener, hairdryer, and makeup case. Luckily, my dad used to take me on forest trips where he taught me to carry only the essentials. "Has anyone told Laura that there is no electricity in the middle of the forest?" The only relatively heavy things I have are four power banks for my cell phone, just in case.
After walking for 7 hours without hardly stopping (Phoenicia has an enviable physical condition), we arrive at a rustic village where I see several witches, a few wolves, and a couple of werewolves, all working to keep the village well-stocked and habitable.
As soon as we arrive, an elderly witch approaches us to welcome us. She is a mysterious woman; her eyes are like the infinite itself, but there is something about her that brings peace and tranquility.
"Annia Drusso, isn't it?" She looks at me intensely, and I become somewhat nervous.
"Yes, I am Annia. And who are you?" I ask, trying not to be clumsy in my actions.
"My name is Anadely Trhee, and I am the Queen of Witches. I am glad you're here; believe me, we will be safe for some time."
I had heard about her before; I know she is very powerful and has had an alliance with my late boss to protect the world from shapeshifters. Knowing that she is in charge makes me feel secure.
Laura simply observes the place and doesn't understand much, just like me, but there is no other option. It's either this or be found by the usurper and be enslaved or forced to mate with renegades.
They give us a cabin to share, and we settle in peacefully. Everything is very rustic, but that also helps us avoid drawing attention.
Laura and I take on the task of cooking, and I must say I am very good at it. Another thing is that I am a certified lazy person, but I know I cook well.
After dinner, we gather together, and they applaud me for the meal. Although the poor wolf who was cooking was unhappy for not being appreciated, he had to admit that I had enchanted them with my food.
The shapeshifters gather around a campfire to get to know each other better and to organize how we will work to promote coexistence.
"Welcome, I am Alenka, and I am a werewolf. This is Dario, my mate, who is also a werewolf. That poorly skilled cook is Terios, and the red-haired wolf is Sadiel." Alenka is a beautiful alpha werewolf; she and her mate are very attractive and clearly in love.
"It's a pleasure. I'm Annia, and this is my good friend Laura. It's nice to meet you all and help in any way we can. I am glad to see good and decent people in the same situation as us."
I turn to look at Laura, who seems a bit distracted. She is not the most focused person on the planet, but this behavior is unusual. With a bewildered expression on her face, she looks at me with a hint of fear.
"Annia, do you smell that?" I have no idea what she's talking about, as I haven't smelled anything, and she turns to look in a specific direction.
I look curiously, but I see nothing and no one, yet Laura continues to stare as if hypnotized.
