(The room is dimly lit, city lights casting long shadows. Rin stands by the window, arms crossed. Leon pours himself a drink, moving like he isn’t a man who was nearly killed hours ago.)
Leon
You’re still here.
Rin
You were almost assassinated an hour ago.
(Leon smirks, sipping whiskey.)
Leon
That’s not new.
Rin
You’re taking this too lightly.
Leon
And you’re taking it too personally.
Rin
I take my job seriously.
(Leon steps closer, watching Rin.)
Leon
And yet, you’re still here. Watching me.
(Rin meets his gaze.)
Rin
Protecting you.
Leon
Is that what this is?
(Thick silence engulfs them. Leon steps into Rin’s space—measured, deliberate. Not quite a challenge. Not quite something else.)
Leon
You’re awfully close, Kuroda.
Rin
You’re the one stepping in.
Leon
And you haven’t stopped me.
(Something sharp flickers between them. Tension, but laced with something more dangerous.)
(Rin steps back, breaking the moment.)
Rin
Get some rest, Varela.
Leon
You too, Kuroda.
(Rin doesn’t answer. He turns away, but Leon knows—he felt it too.)
