Ep 20
The car moves through the city streets, the prime minister's additional security tailings behind. She sits stiffly, watching them through the side mirror, frustration Boiling beneath her composed exterior.
Her father had controlled her through her company. Now, her husband wanted to control her through security.
She takes out her phone and spends a message to her head of security at her company.
Maura Davis (FL)
Find a way to lose them. I don't need my every move monitored.
A few minutes later, her security team responds with a plan.
At the next intersection, her car takes an unexpected turn - one the prime minister guards weren't prepared for. By the time they react, her vehicle is already merging into a crowded business district, slipping away unnoticed.
Maura Davis (FL)
* she smirks* i wasn't going to be a puppet - not to my father, and certainly not to my husband.
Evening, the prime minister's residence. The tension in the air is thick as she walks into their bedroom, prepared to act as if nothing happened. But the moment she steps inside, she sees him standing near the window, his back to her in his pockets.
She doesn't have to ask. The rigid set of his shoulder, the way he tilts his head slightly as she enters - it's all too telling.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
You give my security the slip.
His voice is calm, but there's an edge to it.
Maura Davis (FL)
* she crosses her arms* i told you l didn't need them.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
* he turns slowly, his gaze locking onto hers* That wasn't your decision to make.
Maura Davis (FL)
*She raises an eyebrow* oh? And whose decision is it? Yours ? I didn't realize I lost my autonomy when I Married you.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
* His jaw tightens slightly, but he keeps his composure* this isn't about control. It's about safety. Whether you like it or not, you're my wife now. You're a target.
Maura Davis (FL)
* she scoffs* I've handled myself just fine before this marriage. I don't need my every move tracker like I'm some fragile trophy.
He steps closer, his voice quieter but firmer
Randolph Weaver (ML)
You don't understand the threats that come with this position.
Maura Davis (FL)
* she meets his gaze head on* and you don't understand that I refuse to live in a cage.
A tense silence stretched between them. Neither of them back down.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
* finally, he exhales sharply* i can't force you to accept my security, but i won't let you be reckless.
Maura Davis (FL)
* she smirks slightly* then it seems we're at an impasse.
His lips press into a thin line, and she can tell he's already thinking of another way to assert his influence. But so is she.
Because if he thought he could control her as easily as his government, he had another thing coming.
