Ep 18
Their bedroom is the prime minister's official residence. It's late evening. The day had been long - filled with formal greetings, quiet stares from staff, and the unfamiliar weight of the family ring on her finger.
She pushes open the door to their room, finding him seated on the couch, flipping through some official documents, her husband looks as composed as ever, his suit jacket draped over the armrest, his tie loosened slightly.
She strides in, stopping a few feet away from him.
Maura Davis (FL)
Why did your mother give me this ring?
He glances up, noticing the jewelry still on her finger.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
Because it belongs to the wife of the prime minister.
Maura Davis (FL)
*her brows furrow* but your elder brother is married shouldn't it go to his wife?
He sets his papers aside, resting his arms on his knees as he leans forward slightly.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
That is not how it works in this family. The woman who wears that ring is the one standing beside the leader of this country. It doesn't matter who is eldest. It matters who holds the most responsibility.
Maura Davis (FL)
*she blinks, processing his words*so, because you're the prime minister... I'm expected to step up?
Randolph Weaver (ML)
*A smirk tugs at his lips.* What,do you not like power?
She looks away, fingers instinctively playing with the heavy ring.
Maura Davis (FL)
I like power.
She wouldn't lie about that - she built an empire, after all. She knew the thrill of control, the satisfaction of making decisions that shaped industries.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
Then what's the problem?
He asks, watching her with quiet amusement.
She sighs, dropping onto the edge of the bed.
Maura Davis (FL)
The problem is - i don't like more work.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
*he chuckles, shaking his head* you run one of the biggest companies in the country, and you're worried about handling a household?
Maura Davis (FL)
* she gives him a pointed look* I built my company. I know its system, its people, how it works. This? This is different. I have to deal with family dynamics, traditions, and expectations...
Maura Davis (FL)
*she waves her hand dramatically* people will expect me to host dinners, make decisions about household matters, and be involved in a life I never wanted.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
*he tilts his head, studying her.* so, you're saying you like power, but you don't like the effort that comes with it?
Maura Davis (FL)
*she groans* i just didn't ask for more responsibilities when I have a full plate.
He leans back against the couch, his expression unreadable for a moment before he speaks.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
Then delegate
Maura Davis (FL)
*she frowns* what?
Randolph Weaver (ML)
* he shrugs* you're a CEO. You know how to manage people. Use those skills here. You just have to know how to control the game.
She stares at him, the frustration in her chest fading slightly as his words settle. He's right.
Power isn't about doing everything it's about knowing how to make things work in your favor.
She exhales, looking at him with a newfound sense of understanding.
Maura Davis (FL)
You really are good at this, aren't you?
Randolph Weaver (ML)
* his smirk returns* I wouldn't be prime minister if i weren't.
She glances at the ring again, then back at him.
Maura Davis (FL)
Fine. If i have to do this, I might as well do it properly.
Randolph Weaver (ML)
* he nods in approval* that's the spirit.
As she stands to leave, she pauses at the door and turns back.
Maura Davis (FL)
But just so you know, I'm still not hosting family launches every Sunday.
She rolls her eyes and walks out, but this time, the weight of the ring on her finger doesn't feel quite as heavy.
