Maya stepped out of the office building, her eyes scanning the bustling streets of New York City. She had a plan, a plan to track down Alexander Rykard and confront him about his past. The memories of her life with him, though fragmented, still lingered, fueling her determination.
She hailed a taxi and gave the driver an address in Manhattan. As the taxi sped through the city streets, Maya's mind raced with thoughts of Alexander Rykard and his family. The Rykards were a powerful family, with a business empire that spanned the globe. They were known for their ruthless tactics and their ability to get what they wanted, no matter the cost.
Maya's thoughts drifted back to her life with Alexander. She remembered the lavish parties, the exotic vacations, and the luxurious lifestyle. But she also remembered the feeling of being trapped, of being a prisoner in her own home.
The taxi pulled up in front of a sleek, modern skyscraper. The building was the headquarters of Rykard Industries, Alexander Rykard's company. Maya paid the driver and stepped out of the taxi, her eyes fixed on the building.
She took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come. She was about to take on the Rykard empire, and she was ready. With a determined look on her face, Maya walked into the building, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
As she entered the lobby, Maya was greeted by a receptionist who looked up at her with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. "Can I help you?" the receptionist asked, her voice firm but polite.
Maya smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "I'm here to see Alexander Rykard," she said, her voice firm and confident.
The receptionist raised an eyebrow. "I'm afraid that's not possible," she said. "Mr. Rykard is a very busy man. He doesn't see anyone without an appointment."
Maya's smile never wavered. "I don't need an appointment," she said. "I'm his wife."
The receptionist's eyes widened in surprise. "I...I apologize, Mrs. Rykard," she stuttered. "I wasn't aware that you were...that you were back."
Maya's eyes narrowed. "Back?" she repeated. "What do you mean?"
The receptionist hesitated, clearly unsure of how much to reveal. "I mean, we were told that you...that you had passed away," she said finally.
Maya's face went white with anger. "Who told you that?" she demanded.
The receptionist shook her head. "I don't know, Mrs. Rykard. I swear, I don't know anything."
Maya's eyes flashed with anger. She knew that she was getting close to the truth. She could feel it.
"I want to see Alexander Rykard," she repeated, her voice firm. "Now."
The receptionist nodded, clearly intimidated. "I'll...I'll call his assistant," she said.
Maya nodded, a cold smile spreading across her face. She was one step closer to the truth. And she was ready to do whatever it took to uncover it.
