Chapter 4 : The Hunt for Alexander

Maya stepped out of the hospital, blinking in the bright sunlight. She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of freedom she hadn't experienced in decades.

Her first stop was the local police station. Maya needed to know more about the accident, and why Alexander had never been charged.

As she walked into the station, Maya was greeted by a friendly officer. "Can I help you?" he asked.

Maya hesitated, unsure of where to start. "I'm looking for information about a car accident," she said finally. "It happened about 20 years ago."

The officer's expression turned curious. "What's your connection to the accident?" he asked.

Maya took a deep breath. "I was the victim," she said. "I've been in a coma for 20 years, and I just woke up."

The officer's eyes widened. "I'm so sorry," he said. "Let me see what I can find."

Maya waited anxiously as the officer searched through old records. Finally, he emerged with a file.

"This is the report from the accident," he said. "But I have to warn you, it's not going to be easy to read."

Maya steeled herself and took the file. As she read through the report, her anger grew. Alexander had been driving recklessly, and he had left her for dead.

But why? Maya wondered. What had driven Alexander to be so reckless?

She knew she had to find him, to confront him about the past. But where was he now?

Maya's eyes scanned the report, searching for any clues. And then, she saw it - a mention of Alexander's family, and their business empire.

Maya's eyes narrowed. She had a lead, and she was determined to follow it. She was going to find Alexander, no matter what it took.

The assistant's expression didn't change, but Maya detected a flicker of unease in his eyes. He leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together.

"I'm afraid that's not possible," he said. "Mr. Rykard is a very busy man. He doesn't have time to meet with...with people who are not relevant to his business interests."

Maya's eyes narrowed. She didn't like the way the assistant was talking to her, as if she was some kind of inferior being.

"I'm relevant," she said, her voice cold. "I'm the woman who was in a coma for 20 years. The woman who was married to Alexander Rykard."

The assistant's expression changed, just for a moment. Maya saw a flash of surprise, of alarm, before he regained his composure.

"I'm afraid that's not possible," he repeated. "Mr. Rykard is not available to meet with you."

Maya stood up, her heart pounding in her chest. She was angry, angry at the way she was being treated, angry at the secrets that were being kept from her.

"I'm not going away," she said, her voice loud. "I'm going to find Alexander Rykard, and I'm going to make him pay for what he did to me."

The assistant stood up, his eyes locked onto hers. "I'm afraid that's not a good idea," he said. "Mr. Rykard is a powerful man. He has many connections, many friends. You don't want to cross him."

Maya laughed, a cold, hard laugh. "I'm not afraid of him," she said. "I'm not afraid of anyone. I'm going to find out the truth, no matter what it takes."

The assistant's expression turned cold, hard. "Very well," he said. "If you want to play it that way, then so be it. But don't say I didn't warn you."

Maya turned and walked out of the office, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew she had just made an enemy, but she didn't care. She was determined to find out the truth, no matter what it took.

As she walked out of the building, Maya felt a sense of trepidation. She knew she was taking a risk, confronting Alexander Rykard and his family. But she was ready. She was ready to face whatever lay ahead, to fight for the truth and for justice.

Maya took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come. She was going to find Alexander Rykard, and she was going to make him pay.
