Chapter 10
Naya turned fifteen, and with each passing year, her hatred for Vivian only grew.
The torment, the punishments, the loneliness—it all became a part of her life. But no matter what, She refused to break. She fought back, even when it hurt, even when it cost her everything.
But this time... Vivian wasn't planning to hurt her with slaps or isolation.
She had something much worse in mind.
One evening, Naya sat in the dimly lit dining hall, pushing her food around on the plate, lost in thought. Kaylen sat across from her, barely acknowledging her existence, while Hailey played with her spoon, oblivious to the tension in the air.
Then, the sound of heels clicking against the marble floor made her stiffen. Vivian entered, draped in an elegant dress, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips.
Vivian Caldwell (Stepmom)
*Sweetly* Naya, dear. We need to talk.
Naya Caldwell (15)
*Frown* ( What is she planning now ? )
Naya Caldwell (15)
What do you want ?
Vivian's smirk widened as she slid a folder across the table.
Vivian Caldwell (Stepmom)
Congratulations, your getting married.
For a movement, Naya thought she misheard. She blinked, staring at the papers in front of her. Then, she laughed—short and humorless.
Naya Caldwell (15)
*Mocking tone* Oh that's funny. You almost got me there.
Vivian's expression didn't change.
Vivian Caldwell (Stepmom)
It's not joke, darling. The contract has been signed. You belong to the Stevenson family now.
The Stevensons. A name she had heard countless times—a family of wealth, power and influence. The kind of people Vivian would sell her soul to impress.
Naya Caldwell (15)
You... You sold me off for money?
Vivian Caldwell (Stepmom)
*chuckles* Don't be dramatic. You should be greatful. He's young, successful, and quite handsome. Unlike your sister, who had to marry into a poor family.
Naya short up from her seat, knocking the chair back.
Naya Caldwell (15)
I won't do it !
Vivian sighed, as if dealing with a stubborn child.
Vivian Caldwell (Stepmom)
You don't have a choice. You either marry him willingly, or i make things worse for you. And trust me, darling, you don't want to see what I can do.
Naya's hand clenched into fists. Her heart pounding, rage bubbling inside her—but what could she do? She had no power, no freedom.
