The Tangled Thread of Fate Ep 4: Jake

JAKE'S POV

It's another midnight alcohol buying for me today. It never ceases to astonish me how my mom has no clue about anything but knows exactly where and which alcohol shop remains open twenty-four hours. She is too tipsy to go buy her own alcohol alone so here I am.

The shop is not far from away from our house. Just past Moonfall Bridge. Moonfall Bridge.... That bridge is so divine that it looks like the gods and goddesses came down themselves to make this beauty.

I could spend hours there. And that was the only reason I allow myself to go buy mom's alcohol. With quick steps, I reached the bridge. And the sight made me doubt if it's for human eyes.

A girl was standing on the railing of the bridge. She had silky long light brown hair which was almost glowing and softly flying because of the light wind and sparkling yet cold blue eyes.

She was wearing a simple sleeveless white dress which reached upto her feet. Her beauty in the light of the moon would seem to any mortal as if the moon goddess herself has descended into the earth. Such a divine beauty... Ethereal.

But the admiration didn't last long.

The beauty of the girl had snapped me away from reality but it didn't take me long to come back.

What the hell is she doing while standing on the railing.....?

By the time I took a step forward the splash of water broke the midnight silence. She jumped into the lake... She jumped into the lake?! Oh my fucking god!!

I rushed to the edge only to see her drowning. Her eyes opened for a split second one last time and then closed as if accepting her death. No way that's happening. I didn't let any second thoughts come in my mind and with one swift move I jumped over the railing and into the water.

Thank heavens I am strong enough even though I am not that good of a swimmer. I somehow managed to drag the girl to the shore.

Thankfully she was breathing but I was sure she had taken in a lot of water. I need to get her to a hospital. There is one health centre around the corner of my house. I have to go there often to treat my bruises. At midnight, right now that was my best shot. The staff knew me so hopefully they would help this girl as quick as they can. I pulled her up, put her arms around my neck and then started to walk towards the health centre as fast as my feet can carry us.
