The Tangled Thread of Fate
Ep 3: Emma
When these phrases have surrounded you every second of the day, you don't need someone to say it to you. It keeps ringing in your ears.
Dad had gone out to grab some groceries. He always went out in the evening. He told me he wanted the house to be spotless by the time he came back.
The house has always been spotless and I knew I didn't actually have to clean anything. But there is always that one spot somewhere that denies to be cleaned. And that one single spot is always the death of me. So, with a broom and towel I set myself to work.
I was almost done with the cleaning when the ringing of the doorbell echoed through the house.
I was just left with arranging the cushions in the living room. And putting the broom and towel back in place. The cushions didn't need anything except a little touch up which could also be avoided, which I did avoid. I rushed to put back the broom and towel in its place when I heard the twist of the door.
Just a few more seconds and all would have been well. Except it wasn't.
I had one single task. A goddamn single task! But I still messed it up. I still had the broom and towel in my hand when my eyes locked with dad's.
His jaw tightened as his eyes narrowed. His hands grew tighter around the pack of groceries he was holding.

What is this?
His voice was cold and sharp enough to cut through. I didn't need to ask what it what, I knew.
William Collins
I told you to have the house cleaned spotless by the time I came back. But here you are.
He stopped for a brief second and I had a slight hope he would let go.
William Collins
I told the trash to clean the trash. How on earth can that be possible, right?
William Collins
You bitch!
William Collins
I fed you, I financially supported you, I raised you, I did everything for you! I am your father!
William Collins
And what did I get in return? You can't even clean the house, goddamn it! You...
Biological, yes. But you're not my father. He kept on saying but his words vanished into thin air for me. The ground had pulled me in and the aura of life in me kept dimming until it was no longer there.
After the storm had passed, dad went to bed. I am the one being said things to and he's the one raging off to bed and now sleeping soundly.
Great, such a father figure!
I sat down in the ground of the living room itself. I didn't have it in myself to move. I waited until I was sure dad had completely drifted off to sleep.
The kitchen door creaked less, so that was my best way out. I desperately needed some fresh air. And there was only one place I could go to. Moonfall Bridge. That is the one place where peace and solace find their way to you.
It was pitch black outside but I knew the roads would take me there. And they did.
The place was as beautiful as ever. The moon lit up the bridge perfectly. Not too bright but yet perfect to admire the beauty of the lake there.
Well, the lake seemed rather intimidating today. Perfect to drown in...
Wait, no! I can't let my intrusive thoughts win. But a swim would be nice, no?
I climbed over the railing and steadied myself. Then I jumped right into the lake.
The water was freezing cold but somehow it was soothing. It felt nice. If only I could drift off... Water was coating my face. Am I drowning? But it feels so nice. Maybe I can really drift off.
Before my eyes closed shut I could see the silhouette of a person standing over by the bridge. The person seemed to be yelling. Perhaps they are letting out their anger.... My eyes shut closed and death had finally started to embrace me.
But then, I heard the splash of water.
