A Mark by My Wife
I walked with hesitant, timid steps toward the living room, my mind refusing to stay quiet. It kept painting dramatic, larger-than-life images of him, as if he were the hero of some grand novel.
The moment I entered, my eyes instinctively searched for him. And there he was—sitting on the couch, radiating his usual unreadable, cold aura.
His control over his expressions was almost terrifying. It was like looking at a stone statue—one that could snap my neck if it wanted to.
His muscular frame was dressed in his usual crisp suit. 𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘐 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘮.
𝘉𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘳. Just like an actual bagula (heron), he sat with his long neck held high, his posture annoyingly perfect, legs crossed, one hand holding his phone, the other resting on his knee.
And then there were his 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴—𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘺 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘺-𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯, 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴, 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺
They had that sharp, assessing quality, like he could see right through me.
I stared. Way longer than I should have.
He is such a masterpiece.
Like those men in novels—the cold, distant ones that make the heroine’s life miserable but still somehow manage to look unfairly attractive.
𝘙𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘪, 𝘳𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘪, 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬! 𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬! 𝘏𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘕𝘖𝘛 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦! 𝘠𝘦𝘴. 𝘠𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭.
Even though… it was slipping through my fingers like sand.
I inhaled deeply, willing myself to look away. That’s when my eyes landed on her.
She was sitting beside him, talking, her posture elegant and confident. It would be a straight-up lie to say she wasn’t beautiful. She was gorgeous.
The kind of woman who could command attention effortlessly. Educated, working, graceful in her movements. Her outfit was modest yet expensive, classy but never cheap. She looked like she belonged in this world—his world.
I didn’t realize how lost I was in my thoughts until—
The carpet betrayed me. My foot caught on the edge, and before I could react—
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴.
Ruhani Taha Mirza/FL/
I watched in absolute horror as the hot tea landed right on his hand**
Taha zayan Mirza/ML/
A sharp hiss of pain left his lips**
My heart was dead. Finished. Buried. 𝘒𝘩𝘶𝘥𝘢 𝘏𝘢𝘧𝘪𝘻, 𝘙𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘪.
I took a slow step back, immediately lowering my gaze. . 𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙪𝙥. 𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙪𝙥.
His eyes. Burning. Searing into my very soul.
Before he could say anything, Rameem’s voice cut through the air like a knife.
Rameen Mirza/ ML cousin/
“Andhi ho gayi ho kya?! Dimaag kahan hai tumhara?!”
[ "Have you gone blind?! Where is your brain?!" ]
I flinched.I clenched my eyes shut, biting my lower lip. Ya Allah, why?!
He still hadn’t said a word. But I knew. He was furious. And the worst part?
I hadn’t meant to hurt him. Not even in my dreams.
Taha’s hand turned an angry shade of red, the burn glaring against his skin. His cold, piercing eyes bore into Ruhani, making her shift nervously where she stood, her gaze glued to the floor. She was fidgeting, her fingers twisting together, a clear sign of her fear, guilt, and hesitation.
But Taha—he was beyond just angry.
His fury was a silent storm, dark and brewing, waiting to explode. His body stiffened, muscles tensed, veins on his neck and forehead standing out in sharp relief.
His jaw clenched tightly, and his hands curled into fists, his whole frame radiating frustration.
He wanted to throw something. Yell. Do something.
His anger had always been dangerous—controlled but deadly.
Rameen, who had been sitting beside him, let out an irritated sigh and quickly went to fetch the first-aid box. Her glare toward Ruhani was filled with disdain as she returned, settling beside Taha once more to tend to his injured hand.
Rimsha Mirza/ML Aunt/
“Ya Allah! Kya hua Taha ke haath ko? Yeh kaise jal gaya? Itna zyada!” **She gasped in shock and worry as her eyes fell on his burned hand**
[ "Oh God! What happened to Taha's hand? How did it get burned so badly?!" ]
Rameen, wasting no time, immediately pointed toward Ruhani, her face twisted with irritation.
Rameen Mirza/ ML cousin/
“Woh iski wajah se hua hai, Mama! Bilkul bhi akal nahi hai is ladki mein!”
[ "It’s because of her, Mama! This girl has no sense at all!"]
Rimsha’s eyes turned to Ruhani, now filled with anger.
Rimsha Mirza/ML Aunt/
“Yeh kya kiya tumne?! Aankhein nahi hain tumhare paas?! Kitna jal gaya hai Taha ka haath! Bewakoof ladki, ek kaam dhang se nahi ho sakta tumse?! Haan?”
[ "What have you done?! Don't you have eyes?! Look how badly Taha's hand is burned! Stupid girl, can’t you do anything properly? Huh? ]
Her taunts struck Ruhani like sharp knives.Ruhani didn’t say a word.
She just stood there, swallowing down the lump in her throat, her eyes stinging with unshed tears.
Taha inhaled deeply, controlling the storm inside him, before abruptly standing up. His cold gaze flickered toward his aunt, shutting her down before she could say another word.
Taha zayan Mirza/ML/
"I'm fine, stop overreacting. It’s just a mark... a mark left by my wife, who's only been with me for two days."
Taha zayan Mirza/ML/
His voice was like ice—sharp, controlled, and emotionless**
His words hit Ruhani harder than she expected.
Her breath hitched.
And before she could stop herself, a lone tear escaped, rolling down her cheek.
She flinched as if his words physically struck her, and without another second’s delay, she turned on her heels and ran to the kitchen, unable to hold back the storm of emotions any longer.
Guilt twisted inside her. She didn’t mean to hurt him.
But their words—his words—burned her more than she had burned him.
A tense silence filled the room.
Taha’s cold gaze now turned to Rameen.
Taha zayan Mirza/ML/
"Never raise your voice in front of her... not even if she sets my entire body on fire."
**His voice was low, dangerous**
His words sent a clear message—one that left both Rameen and Rimsha speechless.
Without another word, he grabbed his keys and walked out of the house, leaving behind the echoes of his icy warning.
