She doesn’t finish the sentence. Grimalkin snorts, settling on a nearby rock.
Grimalkin
(teasing, but with an edge)
“Well, isn’t this delightful. Who’s first?”
Patrick steps forward, his jaw clenched. The glyphs on the gate glow brighter, and a circle of light forms beneath him. The world around him shifts, dissolving into darkness before reforming into a forest bathed in moonlight. He recognizes it immediately—it’s the night he became Alpha.
The younger Patrick stands before his father, bloodied and beaten, surrounded by the pack. His father, the former Alpha, snarls at him, his claws extended.
