CURSED BY MOON, BOUNDED BY BLOOD
chapter 29
The group moves deeper into the shadowy forest. The oppressive canopy above blocks most of the fading light, casting everything in an unsettling gloom. Tension crackles in the air like a distant storm as Lily strides ahead, her movements precise but her emotions tightly wound. Patrick follows, his gaze locked on her, his jaw clenched. Grimalkin trails behind, unusually silent, as though sensing the shift.
patrick
(voice low, barely holding back frustration)
“Do you even hear yourself? It’s like you’re more comfortable fighting monsters than being honest with me.”
lily
(not turning, her voice clipped)
“I’m leading us out of this death trap. If you have a better idea, now’s the time to share.”
patrick
(sharply)
“This isn’t about the forest, Lily! You’re shutting me out—again. What are you hiding?”
Lily freezes mid-step, her shoulders stiffening. When she turns, her expression is guarded, but her eyes betray a flicker of vulnerability.
