THE VISITOR

POV- EVANGELINE HOPES

---------------------------------

I was back on track, busy with my cases. The clients were really important to me. Following my uncle's instructions, I focused on my career and worked hard.

"Welcome back, devil," Mr. Albino grinned at me. He was fully satisfied with his victory in other cases. I didn't pay him any attention and focused on my job.

"Eva!" Tiara, my friend, hugged me. She was also busy with her office work, but she didn't forget to give me a phone call. She and my boss handled all my cases for me.

"Thanks Tiara, you did your work very well," I hugged her tightly. "Tonight, it's my treat," I told her.

"Okay, fine...Oops, I forgot to give a treat to Raven," I said, placing my hands on my head.

"What Raven? Seriously? Is there something going on between you two?" Tiara asked, gossiping.

"Stop gossiping about us!" I pinched her cheeks.

"Yeah, I forgot to tell you, Raven also lent a hand. You should thank him properly."

"Yes, ma'am," I giggled at her.

"By the way, my husband inquired about you daily. He wants to meet you."

"Oh my, when did our boss become your husband?" I chuckled.

"Hey...hey... One day, I will definitely propose to him," Tiara told me with determination.

"Okay, fine. I am going to meet him," I said. I took some files and walked towards the boss's office.

"May I come in?" I asked.

"Since when did you become so formal, my junior?" he replied.

I held back my laughter and entered his cabin. Inside, Odin was also there. I saw they were preparing files for another case.

"Well, first I want to thank you guys for handling my cases and supporting me," I politely thanked them both.

"If we were in the same situation, we would do the same. So no need to thank us," Bill Abraham told me.

I peeked at Raven, he was pretending to be busy with his document.

"What are you searching for?" I asked him.

"Hmm... It's a property issue case, so I need to add something."

Then I read his document in seconds, knowing what he had missed, and explained it to him.

Bill and Odin were looking at me with surprise.

"What did you just do?" Bill asked.

"Huh? Pardon me?"

Then Bill began to explain to me, "Well, actually, this case was handled by one of my seniors for 15 years. No one was able to resolve it. That's why I handed it to him, since he was a criminal lawyer. I thought he would come to a solution. But he took 15 days to make a report, and I am not satisfied with it. But you, you solved it within seconds. Now, I can confidently help my senior."

"Ehh? It's just a piece of cake to me," I just smiled.

"No wonder you were the rank holder in Law academy," Odin commented.

"Yeah, thanks for the compliment. I am planning to take back some case files from you, Odin."

"Well, that's all finished."

"What? Seriously?"

"Yes, you can take a leave for one month, so it's finished. For a skilled lawyer like me, it's a piece of cake," he smirked. I gave him an unbelievable look.

"Eva, yeah, all your cases are finished, but there is one case file I wanted to give you," Bill told me with a gentle smile.

"Well, it's the case file you have been looking for years, Eva."

My eyes widened with surprise. Finally, I have it. Then Bill handed over the case file to me. In that report, I read the case number - 1977/23 MYLA RAPE CASE. UNDER THAT, I SAW THE NAME OF THE LAWYER WHO HANDLED THIS CASE - EVIN HOPES. My hands were shaking with fear and excitement. At that moment, so many images flashed in my mind.

"Eva..." I was interrupted by Tiara.

She informed me, "You have a visitor. A visitor? Maybe he's my client."

"Okay boss, Odin, I will meet you guys tonight. Let's have dinner together at our favorite restaurant," both of them gave me thumbs up. I left them and walked towards my cabin. The file was safe in my hands.

I entered my cabin furiously, then I was shocked to see that person. It was Officer Harry Milton, the special officer assigned to investigate the mastermind case. He stood up and came close to me. I told him to sit down, and we had a conversation like this:

"Hello, I am Officer Harry Milton. I am from the crime branch," he introduced himself.

"I've seen you before. You were with my uncle, right?" I asked him.

"Yes, I saw you too, Evangeline Hopes, one of the leading advocates in Lahorla," he smiled at me.

"Well, what kind of help do you want?"

"Oh, it's not that important. You know, I was investigating the case of the mastermind. I was suspecting that the mastermind was involved in your father's death too."

I was surprised to hear that someone was thinking the same as me.

"Really? So you were suspecting that too," I asked him furiously.

"What do you mean, Miss Hope?"

"When I studied those newspapers, I came to the same conclusion as you. I was also suspecting my father's suicide."

"Well, that's quite a coincidence, Miss Hope."

"Yes, Officer. Maybe it's my destiny to find out the truth. I want to know the truth about my father's death."

"Okay, Miss, I know it's your passion, but here I want to confirm that you are not our prime suspect!"

"What??" I jumped out of my chair.

"Ridiculous... How can I murder my own father?" I asked him furiously.

"Miss Hope, we are slowly solving this puzzle. However, you have a perfect alibi to prove your innocence. At the time of the crime, you were not in our house. You were working here. We didn't find any evidence of someone breaking into your house. It means the murderer was someone familiar or close to him. Anyway, he is the perfect criminal I have found in my entire life. He left no evidence in your house and made it look like your father's suicide. Now, you're telling me you suspect your father's death. You think I believe you?"

"I...but I have full confidence that my father wouldn't kill himself."

"Do you have evidence for that? Or are you the one behind it?" he asked me.

I felt the heavy atmosphere inside my cabin. I began to sweat...

"What do you mean, Officer?" I asked him furiously.

"I just reminded you to not dig your own grave. No matter what, it's a suicide case. Only you recognized that something is missing, like me. So mind your own business and thank you for your information. I will go with my own ways of investigation," he left me alone.

For the first time, I tasted defeat in front of a police officer. It was true that he knew something odd about my father's death. He suspected everyone involved in the case, especially me. I would be the prime suspect.
