The group is setting up for lunch. Aurora sees an opportunity to confront Charlotte privately while the others are busy.
Aurora D'AMORE
Charlotte, can you help me get some more firewood from the shed?
Charlotte Carmine
Sure, let’s go.
dead person
They walk to the shed, away from the others. Once inside, Aurora can't hold back her frustration any longer.
Aurora D'AMORE
Why are you always trying to be the center of attention, Charlotte?
Charlotte Carmine
*Confused* What are you talking about?
Aurora D'AMORE
You know exactly what I mean. You’re always cozying up to Arthur, acting like you’re so perfect.
Charlotte Carmine
Aurora, I’m just being myself. If you have a problem with that, it’s your issue, not mine.
Aurora D'AMORE
Don’t act like you’re innocent. You’re always trying to get Arthur’s attention, and it’s obvious.
Charlotte Carmine
Are you jealous? Is that what this is about?
Aurora D'AMORE
Jealous? Of you? Don’t flatter yourself. I just think you should back off.
Charlotte Carmine
I’m not doing anything wrong. Arthur and I are friends. If you’re insecure about that, you need to deal with it.
Aurora D'AMORE
Maybe you should just stay away from him. He doesn’t need your influence.
Charlotte Carmine
*Angry* You can’t control who Arthur spends time with. If he wants to be my friend, that’s his choice.
Aurora D'AMORE
We’ll see about that.
Aurora D'AMORE
Just stay out of my way, Charlotte.
dead person
They gather the firewood in tense silence and return to the group, keeping their confrontation to themselves. The others don’t notice the tension, and the day continues with an underlying current of unresolved conflict between Aurora and Charlotte.
dead person
While returning aurora calls Charlotte, she turns around
Aurora D'AMORE
*Forcing a smile* Charlotte, before you leave, I want to say something.
Charlotte Carmine
What is it?
Aurora D'AMORE
I think it would be best if you stayed away from Arthur. If you do, we could even be best friends.
Charlotte Carmine
*Hurt and surprised* Stay away from Arthur? Why should I?
Charlotte Carmine
It’s not about why. It’s about making sure things don’t get complicated. If you can respect that, we can have a good relationship.
Charlotte Carmine
*angry* I’m not going to let you dictate who I can or can’t be friends with. I’ll be who I am, and if that’s a problem, then so be it.
Aurora D'AMORE
It’s up to you. But this is my condition.
Charlotte Carmine
*Turning away, clearly upset*
dead person
Charlotte leaves ahead abruptly, not responding further. Aurora watches her go, feeling a mixture of relief and satisfaction.
dead person
Charlotte's mind is racing with thoughts about the confrontation. She feels hurt and misunderstood by Aurora's accusations
Charlotte Carmine
*Forcing a smile* Hey, everyone. I just remembered I have some urgent work to take care of, so I have to leave.
Mary smith
What? But we just got here! Can’t it wait?
Robert knight
Yeah, Charlotte. We were planning to do some fun activities together.
Charlotte Carmine
*Shaking her head* I’m really sorry, but it’s important. I promise I’ll make it up to you all another time.
Aurora D'AMORE
*Trying to hide her satisfaction* Are you sure, Charlotte? We’ll miss you.
Charlotte Carmine
I’m sure. Thanks, everyone. Have a great time.
dead person
As she leaves, the group tries to convince her to stay a little longer.
James Carlton
Come on, Charlotte, just for a bit more. We haven’t even started the fun stuff yet.
Charlotte Carmine
I really wish I could, but I can’t. Take care, everyone.
dead person
With that, Charlotte hurries away, feeling a mix of anger and sadness. She couldn’t believe how Aurora was thinking about her, and she needed some time alone to process everything.
Arthur Windsor
*Watching her go, concerned* I hope everything’s okay with her.
Mary smith
She seemed really upset. Maybe we should check on her later.
dead person
The group, unaware of the real conversation, resumes their activities.
