Mel felt a whirlwind of emotions from the moment she kissed Eduardo. During the kiss, she felt a desire she had never experienced before, a warmth and connection so intense that it left her breathless. The way Eduardo held her, the intensity of his lips against hers, everything made her feel alive in a completely new way.
However, Eduardo's reaction left her devastated. When he declared that the kiss had been a mistake, Mel felt as if she had been punched in the stomach. She spent the next few days feeling rejected and confused, trying to understand why he had pulled away so abruptly after such a profound moment.
Mel tried to keep the relationship strictly professional, but every encounter with Eduardo left her shaken. She noticed the furtive glances he would throw in her direction, but that only confused her more.
"I better go to lunch." Mel headed to Eduardo's office; she wanted to ask if he needed anything before she left for lunch. Before she could enter, her phone began to ring, and on the screen, she saw Isabela's name.
"Hi, Isa!" Mel answered the phone, happy to talk to her friend.
"Hi Mel, I miss you already."
"Me too. How's the baby?"
"We're good... Mel, you know I'm calling to confirm the time of your trip to Italy."
"Oh, I even felt butterflies in my stomach. I've never been on a plane, and I never thought I'd go to Italy on my first trip."
"You'll love it here, the city is beautiful. The flight leaves at seven p.m., you'll arrive here on Saturday morning. You'll have time to rest for the wedding."
"Yes, I'll be there tomorrow. Don't worry, I've already packed my bags." Mel continued the conversation, her voice full of enthusiasm. "I'm so happy for you, Isa. It's going to be a beautiful ceremony, you're going to be the most beautiful bride in the world, I'm sure."
Eduardo, who was leaving for lunch, heard Mel's phone ring. He couldn't help but pay attention to the conversation.
When Mel hung up the phone, Eduardo left his office and couldn't contain his curiosity and the slight bitterness in his voice.
"You're going to Italy?" he asked.
Mel looked at Eduardo, surprised to realize that he had overheard her conversation.
"Yes, my friend is getting married in Italy and she insists on my presence." She explained, trying to understand why he was interested in a matter that had nothing to do with him.
Eduardo forced a smile, although jealousy was evident in his eyes.
"Sounds incredible. I hope you have a great trip, and don't miss work," he said, walking past Mel toward the elevator.
Mel stood still for a moment, watching Eduardo walk away.
"What's gotten into him?" Mel couldn't understand Eduardo's sudden change in attitude, but she resolved not to let it affect the rest of her day. She felt she needed this time to distance herself from the confused feelings she had for Eduardo; the trip to Isabela's wedding would be good. She would take advantage of her friend's wedding celebration to distract herself.
Eduardo felt he needed to vent and thought of Henry, the friend he trusted.
"Henry, can we meet now?" Eduardo called Henry, who answered promptly.
"I'm leaving for lunch, we can meet."
"Okay, can we meet at the Italian restaurant near your work?"
"Yes, I'll wait for you there."
A short time later, the two met at the restaurant.
"Good afternoon, you sounded desperate on the phone." Henry joked, noticing that Eduardo was tense.
"Henry, don't be funny, I need to talk to you." Eduardo was serious.
"Sure, let's have lunch while we talk."
Eduardo sat down and let out a deep sigh before he began to speak.
"It's about Mel," he began hesitantly.
"I can see this is going to be a long conversation. Let's order first."
Once they placed their orders, Henry faced his friend.
"Well, tell me what happened between you and Mel."
"We... we kissed."
"What? I knew you liked her! So how was it? Are you two together?" Henry wanted to know everything that was going on between his friend and Mel.
"No... And I told her the kiss was a mistake. Now, I can't stop thinking about it. I'm... I'm really attracted to her, Henry. But I'm scared. Afraid of getting hurt again."
Henry listened carefully, his eyes fixed on Eduardo.
"I can't believe you said that! When I saw you two leaving the awards together..."
"Wait..." Eduardo raised his eyebrows in surprise. "You saw that Mel helped me get home? You were still at the awards ceremony, and why didn't you come help me? I was feeling sick, you know?" Eduardo was indignant.
Henry smiled, shaking his head.
"I had company, and I thought you preferred Mel's company to mine," he said with a slight smile. "And it seems I was right, or would you like to kiss me?" Henry laughed at Eduardo's face, who let out a nervous laugh, but not because he had found his friend funny. "Now tell me, why did you say the kiss was a mistake?"
"I was confused, scared of what I was feeling. You know what I went through. Being betrayed, suffering... I don't want to go through that again."
Henry nodded, understanding his friend's concern.
"I understand, Eduardo. You've been through a lot. But look, you're a man now. Stronger and more mature. And yes, you could be betrayed again, but letting fear paralyze you is not the solution. If you really have feelings for Mel, it's worth the risk, finding out who she is, if she's a good person, if she feels the same way about you."
Eduardo was silent for a moment, pondering Henry's words.
"I may have ruined everything..."
"Then you need to show her you're sorry. If you don't try, you'll never know. Living with regret is much worse than living with fear."
Eduardo knew his friend was right; now he needed to understand what he really felt before talking to Mel.
"Tomorrow she's going to Italy for a friend's wedding..."
"Careful!" Henry interrupted. "Italians are handsome, charming..." Henry said, watching his friend's reaction.
