Episode 11

The next morning, Mel arrived at the office determined to start the day well and show her dedication to her new job. When she arrived at the office, she found Celia already busy with some tasks.

"Good morning, Celia," Mel greeted with a smile.

"Good morning, Mel! Ready for another day?" Celia asked with her usual enthusiasm.

"Absolutely!" Mel affirmed.

A short time later, Eduardo arrived at the office. His eyes automatically searched for Mel, who was alone at that moment.

"Good morning," Eduardo greeted.

"Good morning, Mr. Bittencourt... Thank you for yesterday, and as soon as I wash your jacket, I'll return it..."

"Don't worry about it. Did you get home alright?"

"Yes..." They were silent for a few seconds.

"I'll be in my office, the company's monthly meeting is at 9 o'clock."

"Celia already told me everything."

"Alright. See you in the meeting room."

They exchanged a look that said more than words could express. There was a connection there, something they were both beginning to realize, but didn't yet know how to interpret. Eduardo headed towards his office, still thinking about the young secretary who was changing his days in an unexpected way.

It was five minutes to nine in the morning, Mel went towards the meeting room.

"You can do this, Mel..."

Mel was in a new phase of her life, ready to face the challenges of her new job and eager to prove her worth at Sand Imports.

Mel entered the meeting room with a mixture of nervousness and determination. It was the first meeting she would participate in. She mentally prepared herself, remembering Celia's teachings.

Eduardo was already in the meeting room, sitting at the head of the table, reviewing some documents. When Mel entered, he looked up and offered a friendly smile, but his eyes were attentive, as if trying to decipher her.

"Mel. Please, sit down," Eduardo said, gesturing to the chair beside him.

Mel responded with a smile, sitting where he indicated, making Eduardo notice the scent that emanated from her skin.

While the meeting took place, and they discussed some of the company's processes, Eduardo couldn't help but analyze Mel. There was something about her that intrigued him. He was trying to figure out who this woman was that he had first met at the nightclub. Although they were in a professional setting, Eduardo saw flashes of the night he saw her at the club, working with a confident smile and posture.

Eduardo observed every detail about Mel. He wanted to better understand the person behind the dedicated professional she appeared to be.

"Mel, how was it participating in the meeting?" Eduardo asked as they left the meeting room, keeping his tone friendly, but professional.

"I'm very excited, Mr. Bittencourt, there's so much information... I know it will be a challenge, but I'm ready to learn and contribute in the best way possible," Mel replied, trying to hide any nervousness.

After the meeting, Eduardo returned to his office, still reflecting on the day's events. He was trying to concentrate on the documents spread out on the table when Mel announced Henry's arrival, who was there to discuss a business partnership he had with Sand Imports, as he represented the marketing company that provided services to the multinational Eduardo ran.

"Eduardo, how are you?" Henry greeted, entering the room with a friendly smile.

"Henry, it's always good to see you. I'm doing well, and you?" Eduardo stood up to greet his friend with a handshake.

"Everything's great. So, I'm here to discuss the new guidelines I've presented for Sand Imports' marketing," he said, sitting down in front of Eduardo.

"Everything is on track. We need to discuss some details, but I believe the initial proposal that was presented at the last meeting will be approved." Eduardo picked up the folder with the partnership documents.

As they spoke, Mel entered the room with some papers for Eduardo to sign. Henry looked at her, with the feeling that he knew her from somewhere.

When Mel left the room, Henry finally expressed his curiosity.

"Eduardo, I'm sure I know that woman from somewhere. Who is she?" he asked curiously.

"Celia is retiring, and Mel will be my new secretary," he replied, trying to keep his tone neutral. "And yes, you probably know her. She was a bartender at that nightclub we used to go to, the one you said closed down."

Henry's eyes widened in surprise at Eduardo's revelation. He knew very well that Eduardo used to stare at Mel every time they went to that club.

"Ah, right! The redhead bartender! Now I remember..." Henry had a mischievous smile on his face. "And apparently, she's very competent, she's working here."

"It seems so."

"But, Eduardo, you remember how you always had your eye on her at the club, don't you? You'd sit facing the bar and just stare at her."

Eduardo felt his face flush slightly, trying to maintain his composure.

"I looked at her like I would look at anyone else. It's no big deal."

Henry laughed, seeing Eduardo stammer as he responded, clearly amused by the situation.

"Don't give me that, Eduardo. Every time we went to that club, you couldn't take your eyes off her. And now she's your secretary? What an interesting coincidence," Henry insisted, still smiling.

Eduardo took a deep breath, trying to stay focused.

"Look, Henry, let's focus on work, okay? What matters to me is her professional competence," he said, trying to end the conversation.

Henry raised his hands in surrender.

"Alright, alright, calm down! I just thought it was funny how fate works sometimes," Henry commented, still with a smile on his face.

"This has nothing to do with fate. Let's work..."

Eduardo tried to change the subject, picking up the partnership documents again. Henry agreed, realizing his friend wanted to avoid further discussion about Mel.

"Right, let's do this. We have a lot of work to do," Henry agreed, focusing on the documents in front of him, but he would bring the subject up again.

As they discussed the details of the partnership, Eduardo couldn't completely shake his thoughts about Mel.

"Eduardo... Eduardo..." Henry called, noticing his friend was miles away.

"What is it?"

"Next week is that business event, where they give awards to the companies that have stood out the most during the year."

"Yes, I know..." Eduardo confirmed, his tone indicating he was already aware of the event.

"As CEO of Sand Imports, you'll have to attend..."

"Yes, I know," Eduardo repeated, trying to understand where Henry was going with this.

"And you know your brother will be there too, representing your family's businesses, and he'll certainly bring his wife to the event," Henry said, catching Eduardo's attention. "Are you prepared to see her, pregnant no less?" Henry asked, knowing Eduardo and Julia's past, leaving him speechless.
