Chapter 3: Don't Let the Fears Just Start
______________________________
Lia Choi
“Okay, let’s get started, please!” (Lia called out, clapping her hands a few times.)
(The dozen or so adults in the room, all the crew, turned their attention to Lia as she stood right beside Jimin.)
Lia Choi
“Mr. Park is here, so we can begin now. Everyone needs to pay attention!”
Jimin (CEO)
“Good morning, everyone. Thank you for being here. We’ll begin with photos of the interior of the car design that’s been put together,” (Jimin explained.)
Jimin (CEO)
“I’d really appreciate if we captured some preliminary footage of the process on the off-chance that we may want to use it later on.
Jimin (CEO)
With the photographer’s permission, of course. Mr. Jeon?”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Oh. Me? Yes, that’s good for me,” (Jeongguk said,)
Jimin (CEO)
(And Jimin almost smiled. He hadn’t been using English nearly as long as Jimin, so his accent was thick.)
Jimin (CEO)
“Good. We’ll get to work, then.”
Jeongguk nodded rapidly, camera around his neck, and then he took large strides over to the car, cocking his head a bit to the side with his brow furrowed. He glanced at Jimin, so Jimin excused himself from Lia’s side for a moment.
There was a collective murmur from some of the bystanders, as if they couldn’t believe the photographer had the balls to summon the CEO. Jimin, however, found Jeongguk’s naïve but blatant confidence to be a huge turn on.
He couldn’t share his weird kinks with the masses, though. Even hinting at such a thing would trigger mass (gay) panic.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Would you like interior shots first, followed by exterior?” (Jeongguk asked formally)
Jimin (CEO)
(When Jimin approach.)
Jungkook (photographer)
“I’d like to start with the interior to capture the details.”
Jimin (CEO)
“Whatever your process is,” (Jimin said.)
Jeongguk nodded, and then he threw open the passenger side door. Jimin expected him to maybe crouch down, maybe bend a little, maybe get the right angle.
The largest modifications were to the navigation system and stereo system, to all the bells and whistles for the driver.
The detailing in the seat had changed as well, and Jeongguk had inevitably been briefed on all of that—he knew what to photograph, what was expected.
But Jeongguk didn’t do what Jimin expected. Instead, he hopped right into the passenger seat, held the camera up to his eye, and started to take a few photos.
Jimin leaned against the opened door, knowing that all eyes were on him. Last time a photographer had come in, he had just sat with Lia drinking coffee, letting the
Letting the photographer make a mess of things out of spite, swapping GIFs and memes with Lia and trying to decide which one described the situation best. Not this time.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Excuse me,” (Jeongguk said politely)
Jungkook (photographer)
(and the he hopped out of the car and crouched down, leaning back against the inside of the opened door to get the right angle.)
Jungkook (photographer)
“Uh…” (He lowered the camera and glanced around.)
Jungkook (photographer)
“Gimme that paper in your hand.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Yeah. I need to white balance,” (Jeongguk said, crooking his hand. Raising his eyebrows)
Jimin (CEO)
(Jimin handed over his speech Lia had written.)
Jungkook (photographer)
“I hate auto white balancing. I just need this to set my focus and exposure. I’ll give it back.”
(Jimin let him steal the paper and press a few buttons, and then Jeongguk backhanded the paper and got back to work. Jimin quietly stepped back, tucking the speech into his suit jacket pocket, and then he retreated to Lia)
Lia Choi
“You’re hovering,” (she noted immediately)
Lia Choi
“I’m interested,” (Jimin lied) “After all, you remember last time’s photographer.”
Lia Choi
“I do. But he was American. This guy’s Korean. And he has red hair. Or is it pink? It’s somewhere in the middle. And he’s cute. Wonder how old he is,” (Lia joked,)
Jimin (CEO)
(And Jimin almost responded, but he pursed his lips to keep his mouth shut.)
Jimin (CEO)
“He’s working hard. Why is he on the floor? Should I even ask? I swear, the things that come out of my mouth when I work here. If they were taken out of context, I would sound like a lunatic.”
Jimin (CEO)
“As long as he gets the shot,” (Jimin said with a little chuckle, watching Jeongguk roll a little on the floor to get another shot.)
A few of the other staff members were staring at him, trying to figure out what the hell he was doing, and then they started whispering amongst themselves. Jimin let it happen for about five more minutes, but then he glanced at Lia.
Jimin (CEO)
“I’m gonna go take a look at some of his shots. See what he has so far.”
Jimin slipped his hands into his pockets and strolled over to where Jeongguk was crouched down to get exterior photos of the car after getting easily hundreds of the interior. Jimin hovered for a moment, knowing he had a lot of eyes on him, and then he crouched down beside Jeongguk.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Huh?” (Jeongguk pulled his eye away from the camera.)
Jungkook (photographer)
“You want to see some of the shots?”
Jimin (CEO)
“I’d like the rest of the crew to see them, as well as a few interested investors who are hovering over there,” (Jimin said.)
Jimin (CEO)
“To make sure we’re on the right track. Not to jump down your throat or anything, but…"
Jimin (CEO)
(Jimin shrugged and straightened up, beckoning to the set-up off to the right where they could take a look at the photographs coming in)
(Jeongguk stood up as well, and then he wordlessly walked over to the set-up,Jimin on his heels.)
Jimin (CEO)
“We’re just going to take a look at a few of the preliminary photos,” (Jimin announced.)
That statement alone grabbed the attention of every interested investor loitering, as well as a few of the film crew who were standing by. Jeongguk hooked his camera up to the computer, and then he did a bit of clicking, clearly one to work well under intense scrutiny. If he was sweating bullets, Jimin couldn’t tell.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Interior,” (he said, and then he turned the screen and picked a photo.)
Jimin stood over his shoulder with his hands in his pockets, and the moment Jeongguk flicked through five shots in total, there was an instant change in the air.
Jimin (CEO)
“How the hell did you get that much detail?” Jimin asked softly.
Jungkook (photographer)
“No edit yet, so please no judging,”
Jungkook (photographer)
(Jeongguk asked kindly in as much English as he could muster. He understood an astronomical amount more than he could speak).
Jimin (CEO)
“Judgment? These are phenomenal. Show me the seat detail,” (Jimin requested, )
Jungkook (photographer)
(So Jeongguk flicked through a couple and showed the photos he had taken.)
employee 1
“Our competitors are going to cry,”
(Someone said over Jimin’s shoulder, earning a few laughs.)
Jack
“Mr. Jeon, could you get a few more of the new gear shift? I think that would help us a lot,” (another investor requested.)
Jeongguk nodded hastily, and then he unplugged his camera and jogged back over to the car, beckoning to the investor to show him exactly what he wanted. Jimin stood there with his arms crossed, watching in interest.
Benjamin
“Your father’s choice of photographer?” (one man asked.)
Jimin (CEO)
“Must’ve been,” Jimin said.
Jimin (CEO)
“Though I’m not really sure how he found this one.”
employee 4
“We’re not even an hour in and I’m ready for launch,” another woman chimed in.
Jimin nodded quietly, and then he walked back over to where Lia was sitting in her rolling chair, legs crossed at the knee, iPad propped in her lap. Jimin sat down beside her, watching her play a Sudoku puzzle. She didn’t even look up when he sat down, not ashamed to be doing something besides work, knowing full well that Jimin didn’t have a leg to stand on when it came to scolding her for it.
See you all in next episode!!!!
Till then take care ..
