Jimin (CEO)
“You’ll get a menu,” Jimin said in a bit of daze.
Jungkook (photographer)
**Jeongguk shoved his bag onto the floor, and then he sighed, running his hands down his bare face.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“I’m nervous about my camera bag transferring to this flight,” he admitted.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Like, if my bag doesn’t make it, I’m definitely fired from this job before I even start.”
Jimin (CEO)
“Ah, yes. The job you can’t talk about,” Jimin tiredly teased.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Exactly. So I’ll get a menu, you said? That sounds fancy. What if I have dietary restrictions?” Jeongguk asked, settling into his seat.
Jimin (CEO)
“What are your dietary restrictions.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“I’m a raw vegan.”😃
Jimin (CEO)
“You’re a what?”😕
Jungkook (photographer)
“I’m kidding,” Jeongguk said with an amused laugh. 😂
**As the the flight attendants shut the doors, all passengers now onboard, the plane ready to take off for its twelve-hour flight.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“I’m just not sure about the quality of the food. I think I have an airplane fact for that somewhere in my brain.”🤔
Jimin (CEO)
“Spare me.”🙏🏻😃
**The safety briefing then began to play, so both of them sat back quietly and listened, and then the plane shuddered and began to back out of its gate. Jeongguk turned and practically pressed his nose to the window, seeming a little more comfortable with the process now that he had been through it once before.**
Jimin (CEO)
“Do I need to hold your hand again?” Jimin asked.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Maybe on the landing, where I have a higher chance of dying,” Jeongguk replied, and then he glanced over his shoulder with a grin.
Jungkook (photographer)
Fuck, he was so cute.😳👀
**He called Jimin cute, but had he ever looked in a mirror? What kind of good fortune did Jimin have to sit next to him for twelve hours? He had assumed only five minutes ago that it was bad luck, nearly torture. But now, seeing Jeongguk’s genuine smile and realizing that the man who’d given him the best fuck he’d had in a long time was sitting next to him, Jimin was changing his tune. If this was what Jeongguk had meant by taking risks…**
Jungkook (photographer)
“This plane is way bigger than the first one,” Jeongguk noticed, and then he gripped the armrests when the plane began to gain speed for takeoff.
Jungkook (photographer)
Jesus, how is it going so fast? How does it even lift off the ground with all these people onboard?”
Jimin (CEO)
“Didn’t we talk about this last time?” Jimin asked rhetorically as the plane lifted off and soared into the air.
Jungkook (photographer)
Jeongguk only stared out the window, still white-knuckling the armrests for a solid three minutes until the plane finally leveled out.
Jimin (CEO)
Jimin had half a mind to pull out his AirPods so he could enjoy some music, but Jeongguk slowly began to shift away from the window, so he hesitated.
Jungkook (photographer)
“You said you answer a lot of e-mails,” Jeongguk said, drawing in a deep breath and opening and closing his mouth as he stretched his jaw several times, probably to get his ears to pop...
Jungkook (photographer)
“What is it you do for work, exactly, if you’re that busy?”
Jimin (CEO)
“It’s not that interesting,” Jimin lied. “I, uh… I work for my father. Kind of cliché.
Jimin (CEO)
I work for his company, but he gives me a lot of responsibility. I’m kind of taking his place soon, so I just have to deal with a lot of bullshit, you know?”
Jungkook (photographer)
“How do you feel about that?”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Taking your father’s place,” Jeongguk said,
Jimin (CEO)
And Jimin just stared. Blinked once. Pursed his lips. Then realized that that was the first time anyone had actually asked him such a question...👀🙁
**Most people just nodded and congratulated him for his hard work, said that he was making his family proud. No one ever asked how he personally felt about it. They just assumed it was a dream come true to be twenty-five with ten to twelve figures in his bank account consistently and his name all over newspapers and tabloids.**
Jimin (CEO)
“I, uh… I don’t really know,” Jimin admitted. “It was always the plan. I’m an only child, and the only son, so it was kind of just a given.
Jimin (CEO)
My father is getting older. I was groomed for this. He started bringing me into his corporate bullshit when I was about twelve. I was sitting in on meetings when I was thirteen. I signed paperwork on my eighteenth birthday. I don't really know any different.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Not to be rude, but that sounds kind of miserable,” Jeongguk said.
Jimin (CEO)
“It pays my bills,” Jimin said lamely with a small shrug. “So I do all of the legwork for him. I travel a lot. I make ends meet. I run shit at the company, and he just… kind of holds things down at the head office, I guess.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“What does your mother think about it all? What’s she like?”
Jimin (CEO)
“My mother doesn’t have a backbone,” Jimin said honestly. “I wish I could say that I love her dearly and that she’s been a pillar of support in my life, but she’s just a parrot for my father.
Jimin (CEO)
She repeats whatever he says. Supports whatever he says. My father can be dead wrong, and I can prove it to her seven different ways to Sunday, but she just stares at me. She lost her will to be an active participant in my life a long time ago.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard,” Jeongguk said, his brow furrowed, lips puckered a little as he mulled over Jimin’s story.
Jimin (CEO)
And Jimin sat there, mildly stunned that he was reading like an open book to someone he barely knew. Then again, he knew Jeongguk in the Biblical sense now, so he supposed to wasn’t too far-fetched.
Jimin (CEO)
Jeongguk was also the only person who had ever asked for his feelings, and Jimin hadn’t really known that he had feelings about it all until the moment had arisen.
Jungkook (photographer)
“So, what’re things like with your father?”
Jimin (CEO)
“Cordial,” Jimin said. “He found out I was gay when I was sixteen. But, you know, I’m his only hope. The heir to his stupid throne. So I can sneak around and be gay as long as no one sees me doing it, and as long as I agree to run his company.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Sneak around? Jesus Christ. That’s awful.”
Jimin (CEO)
“Well, it’s our deal. He pretends his only son, his pride and joy, isn’t having random men stick their dicks into him, and I run shit.
Jimin (CEO)
He hates it. Hates that he can’t announce to the masses that I’m dating a beautiful woman. That I’m not getting married and bringing a great wife into the family, that I’m not giving him grandchildren.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Well, as someone who’s had the pleasure of sticking his dick into you, I can tell you that whatever your dad says is bullshit,” Jeongguk said, making sure he kept his voice down.
Jimin (CEO)
**Even so, Jimin’s eyes bugged, and he pursed his lips, trying not to laugh.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“Marrying a beautiful woman doesn’t increase your quality of life.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Tell that to my father.
Jimin (CEO)
Are your parents the same way?” Jimin asked
**As the flight attendants began to wander the aisles, preparing to take dinner orders.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“My dad left when I was three,” Jeongguk said. “So I’m an only child, too. My mother raised me with my grandmother, but my grandmother passed away ten years ago. So it was always just my mom and me.”
Jimin (CEO)
“And she knows you’re gay?”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Mhm. She figured it out before I did, actually,” Jeongguk said, amused. “Encouraged it.
Jungkook (photographer)
Supported me when I came home crying from high school most days. Always wanted to meet the boys I dated. I always thought she was just doing it to be nice, but she always said that it didn’t matter.”
Jimin (CEO)
“How could it not matter to her?”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Because I’m her only son, and she loved me before I determined my sexuality,” Jeongguk said with a shrug, and then he smiled upward and held out his hand to accept the little menu from the flight attendant offering them.
Jimin (CEO)
Jimin accepted his as well with a little bow of his head.
Jimin (CEO)
**“That sounds too good to be true,” Jimin said with a short laugh. “Or maybe I’m just wretched and unloved.**
Jungkook (photographer)
Hey, do you think the spicy chicken sounds good? I might go for that.”
Jimin (CEO)
“Okay, uh… Yeah. The chicken looks good. But so does the pork stew.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Ah, it does. Damn. I don’t know. We get all kinds of side dishes in first class, too, so I don't know what would be better.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“You get the chicken and I’ll get the stew, and we can just share,” Jeongguk said, tapping the menu onto his palm a few times.
Jungkook (photographer)
“That cool with you? Now let’s go back to talking about you being wretched and unloved.”
Jimin (CEO)
“I asked for a first class plane ticket, not a psychological evaluation,” Jimin joked, setting his menu into his lap.
Jimin (CEO)
“I don’t feel shame about telling the truth. I grew up with my father, Jeongguk-ah. My mother was physically present but emotionally unavailable. Wretched and unloved are just accurate adjectives, if anything.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“So you don’t get hugs?”
Jimin (CEO)
“Seriously?” Jimin laughed, and Jeongguk grinned sheepishly, shrugging.
Jungkook (photographer)
“I just thought I would ask.”
Jimin (CEO)
“Why, do you wanna hug me?”
Jungkook (photographer)
“I did a little more than hug you back in—”
Jimin (CEO)
“O-O-Okay, yeah. Okay,” Jimin interrupted,
Jungkook (photographer)
And Jeongguk snickered. “Yes. Well, I’ve spent a majority of my adult life thus far kicking it by myself, and I’m pretty good at it.
Oh, hello.”
“Sorry to interrupt,” the flight attendant said. “What will you have for dinner, Mr. Park?”
Jimin (CEO)
“The spicy chicken, please.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“The stew, thanks.” Jeongguk handed back his menu the same time as Jimin..
And the flight attendant headed off to grab their meals. Jimin slouched in his seat a little and ran his hands down his face slowly, trying to wrap his head around the conversation they were having no more than an hour into the flight. Jeongguk was chipping away slowly but carefully, and he was doing it with such ease. He was nearly at the root of the problem, something Jimin had only ever admitted to himself and couldn’t bring himself to say out loud—he desperately wanted to be loved by someone. He wanted to have someone love him and take care of him, because nobody ever had. He didn’t know what it was like to be cared for. He also had no idea what it was like to love someone enough to care for them, too, and he was inwardly howling in agony for such an experience.
There wasn’t much of a chance of it happening at this point in his life.
The flight attendants returned with the meals, setting them on the trays and asking if either men needed anything further. With their trays full of food and plenty of drink, Jeongguk and Jimin both denied anything further while offering their thanks, and then they began to eat. Jeongguk turned on his screen and pointed.
Jungkook (photographer)
“I’m gonna start a movie, I think,” he said. “I’ll talk to you after it if you want. I just haven’t seen this one yet, and my friend says it’s amazing.”
Jimin (CEO)
“Oh, uh, it’s fine. Enjoy your movie,” Jimin said with a little smile, reaching underneath his tray to grab his AirPods. “You’re all good.”
**Jimin turned on his music and began to dig in to his food, munching hungrily and downing it with his drink, trying to log into the plane’s WiFi access in hopes that maybe he could get some work done. But just as he was attempting to make his payment go through for service, a bowl of nearly empty pork stew landed on his tray. Jeongguk had scarfed down almost his entire portion, but he had saved enough for Jimin to finish it. His eyes were bugged a little and glued to his screen, headphones on, so Jimin couldn’t even say thank you. Instead, he just scooped up a few pieces of the spicy chicken, reached over, and dropped them onto a half-empty little plate on Jeongguk’s tray.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“Thanks,” Jeongguk murmured without looking away from his screen
And Jimin felt his lips twitch in a little smile as he turned to his own food. He tried to ignore the fact that his mouth was a little dry as he ate and drank, that his eyelids felt a bit heavy. He listened to his music while he finished up his meal, and Jeongguk’s eyes stayed glued to his movie. They stayed glue to it for the duration of whatever Marvel film he was engrossed in, almost two hours. He watched it all the way through as Jimin rested with his music, right up until the pilot came on the overhead system to announce that the cabin lights would be dimmed in just a few minutes so that passengers could get some well-deserved rest.
Jimin stood up to use the bathroom, seeing that the light was green and nobody was loitering. When he reached the bathroom and opened the door, he gripped the handle a bit tighter.
**Frustrated, he slipped into the bathroom and leaned against the sink top, feeling the vibrations of the plane beneath his feet and against his lower back. It happened maybe once every few months that he would get a bit airsick, that the circulating air on the plane would get to him no matter how much vitamin C he ingested. He typically dealt with it by spending time deep breathing in the bathroom and sleeping, but Jeongguk was sitting right next to him, and his movie was nearly over. So instead of his typical remedies, Jimin used the bathroom and them turned on the sink to wash his hands, splashing some cold water onto his face afterwards. He patted his skin dry with a paper towel, and then he leaned back into the plastic wall and glanced at himself in the mirror. Besides his eyes looking a little tired and his face looking a bit pale, he didn’t look too much like death. He just felt dizzy, and his throat still felt dry.**
**Jimin left the bathroom and held open the door for the lady that was waiting, and then he slipped back into his seat, noticing that the lights had dimmed and the cabin was dark. Jeongguk’s movie was finished, and he was packing up his headphones, looking like perhaps he wanted to get some rest.**
**Jimin buckled his seatbelt loosely, and then he started shifting around to recline his seat fully and pull up the footrest. Once he was situated, he sighed and closed his eyes, lying back and hugging his arms around his torso.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“Hey, are you okay?” Jeongguk’s voice came only a minute later.
Jimin (CEO)
“Mhm,” Jimin hummed, eyes still closed.
Jungkook (photographer)
“You’ve been awfully quiet.”
Jungkook (photographer)
“Are you sure?”
**Jimin drew in a breath through his nose and gently exhaled out his mouth, still feeling the lightheaded disconnection of being mildly airsick. He wanted to open his eyes, but he feared that if he did or that if he moved too suddenly, things would go south quickly. He really didn’t get sick on planes often, but of course, now had to be the time. The stars had aligned just to fuck him over.**
Jimin (CEO)
“I’m good. Just… feeling—I’m fine,” Jimin managed to say, his shoulders rising a little as he tried to get comfortable, made small attempts to get warm,
Jimin (CEO)
Tried to will the wave of sickness to finish washing over him. It would be over in a few minutes, maybe an hour. Who knew? It usually faded with time.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Uh… okay. Okay, um… oh! Excuse me. Excuse me, ma’am.”
“Yes, sir? Yes, Mr. Jeon?” the flight attendant corrected herself as she stopped walking down the aisle.
Jungkook (photographer)
“Can I grab two extra blankets, please?”
Jimin (CEO)
Jimin chewed the inside of his mouth, wanting to saying something, but then his head went for another spin, and he had to stay still and take another deep breath.
Jimin (CEO)
He heard some rustling, some whispered thanks, and then the ripping of plastic. Then he felt a blanket drape over his body from his shoulders down past his knees
Jungkook (photographer)
“Stay right there, hyung,” Jeongguk murmured, and then he carefully tucked the blanket in around Jimin’s shoulders to keep it from slipping off.
Jungkook (photographer)
“There. Um, do you want—oh! Excuse me, I’m sorry. Can I get a cup of water, please?”
Yes, Mr. Jeon, of course.”
Jimin (CEO)
**Jimin pursed his lips and tried to open his eyes, but then he heard the armrests shifting and sliding back like they were meant to,**
Jimin (CEO)
**And he felt Jeongguk’s hand on his shoulder. It was gentle, the way that Jeongguk pulled Jimin onto his shoulder, carefully calculated. It was slow, and Jimin almost groaned from the movement, but Jeongguk just slowed down until Jimin was situation comfortably.**
Jungkook (photographer)
“Ah, thank you,” he said, reaching past Jimin. Then Jimin felt a little nudge. “Jimin hyung. I got you some water.”
Jimin (CEO)
“I’m fine,” Jimin mumbled.
Jungkook (photographer)
“No, you’re feeling airsick. I read all about how this can happen, you know. I studied airplanes like I was studying for a school exam.
Jungkook (photographer)
Just drink some water, please,” Jeongguk said. “Please, hyung. I have it right here.”
**Jimin took a deep breath and opened his eyes, and even in the dim lighting, he saw the cup being held to his lips. He leaned forward as much as he could but not enough, so Jeongguk brought the cup to his lips and slowly tilted it, letting Jimin take a sip. It was cold and refreshing, so Jimin gulped half of the cup down in one go.**
