Jungkook thinks about that a lot. What his hyungs gave up to become idols. For him, it was always a stage. He wasn't good in school like Jimin was or even Namjoon. He knew pretty early on what he wanted and he was good at it. He worked hard to be better than good. He remembers how much Jimin struggled with singing, how critical he was of himself; if his performance wasn't perfect, he considered it a failure. He remembers how Hoseok wanted to quit, how Jungkook couldn't bear the pain of his dear Hoseok hyung leaving and broke down in tears.
Namjoon. He inevitably comes back to thinking about him. He's got so many plans, so many options, he knows Namjoon had been offered to be a UN goodwill ambassador and was considering going to South Africa for a programme there. He had other plans; music wise, a Hollywood film director wanted him to work on some music for a new upcoming film. He knows how overwhelmed Namjoon was with all of this, how he spent late hours talking with Bang PD, he has been having more sessions with therapists too. He wishes he could help, take away all the stress he wears on his shoulders. But the only thing he could do was nothing.
He reaches his phone to order food. He's in the mood for some jjajangmyeon, and opens the food delivery app that's sadly one his most used apps. He calls his mother while he waits, he's been procrastinating on that. He hopes it's not too late but she picks up after about three to four rings.
Her voice is warm and hopeful, it puts a smile on his face.
Jungkook Mom
Is everything okay? Why aren't you sleeping?
Jungkook glances at the clock, it's barely quarter past eleven. On a usual day meetings would be just starting, perhaps a quick dinner after practice or maybe on a rest day Jungkook would be holed up in his room, the words Golden Closet flashing in the neon light sign he had bought.
Jeon Jungkook
I just wanted to call."
He can see his mother smile, can hear it in her small sigh.
Jungkook Mom
"When are you coming home? Mrs. Park said Jimin is visiting."
Of course. He should have known. His mother and Jimin's mother were close friends, all their parents were and even more strangely, Jin had all of their mother's numbers on speed dial. He figures Jimin's mother would have called in excitement. He feels a little bad for not visiting.
Jeon Jungkook
"I'll be home soon."
Jungkook Mom
Good. Have you eaten?"
Jeon Jungkook
"I'm waiting for my food."
Another classic mother topic: he always puts on more weight than he likes when he goes home. He can rarely say no to anything his mum makes and the thought he might not visit again in a while always made him stuff himself. But right now he doesn't have to think about that. At least not for a while. He knows he'll get back to singing, despite everything he knows solo career in music is his line. Sure he wants to make big budget films and get into film production. But music is his thing. Singing and dancing on a stage far outweighed any other dream he wanted to pursue.
They talk a bit more, he gets an update about his brother and his nephew who's just turned two. He remembers being on tour when the little guy was born and how he hated being away. But his brother had been understanding, sending picture after picture of baby Chunghee. He was fat cheeked with a beautiful smile and had sadly inherited Jungkook's big nose. His mother thought it was adorable. He hopes the baby will grow to love his big nose just like Jungkook did.

Jungkook-ssi, you have a delivery. May I bring it up?
Choi-ssi brings his food and smiles politely, while Jungkook thanks him profusely. For safety reasons, Jungkook gets all his food delivered to the front desk rather than his apartment door.
He opens the box breathing in the spicy aroma of black bean noodles quickly snapping a picture to send Taehyung. He breaks his chopsticks swiftly and begins to dig in. The food is warm and spicy, Jungkook can't help but take large bites of food. His phone pings with the sound of a notification. Taehyung has replied.
He balances his food on his lap, reaching to grab his phone

You really think I'm going to get jealous of you eating takeout jjajangmyeon when I have all the home cooked meals I could want?
There's a picture attached to it, a feast of food probably prepared by Taehyung's mother; Jungkook spots the special Daegu kimchi he loved when Taehyung had brought some over years ago. His mouth waters in jealousy. There's sticky rice cakes, rice, noodles and strips of beef that look absolutely delectable. Taehyung grins from the side of the table, his fingers forming the infamous v shape
Jungkook picks at his food, stuffing a mouth full when his phone rings. Taehyung. He puts the phone on speaker.
Kim Taehyung
"Are you eating?"
Kim Taehyung
😂😂
"I told you to come home with us."
Jeon Jungkook
I know. How are things at home?"
He hears the sounds of plates and the splash of water.
Kim Taehyung
Apparently being a Grammy award winning artist doesn't exclude you from doing chores. I'm washing dishes. Everyone is good. Eunjin has a boyfriend. Now I got to act like a big brother and do the talk. But he seems like a good guy."
Jungkook laughs, he can imagine Taehyung trying to be an intimidating older brother.
Kim Taehyung
Jimin's trying to convince me to go to school with him
Kim Taehyung
"Yeah. I put my foot down. I think he's just nervous.
Jeon Jungkook
Have you got an apartment yet?"
Kim Taehyung
😮💨"No. I wanted something close to the university but everything we've seen doesn't really fit us. Jimin doesn't want one near school but I don't want him spending hours commuting, you know
Jeon Jungkook
"Has he got his licence?"
Kim Taehyung
. "No I'll probably be chauffeuring him around. How are things on your end?"
Jeon Jungkook
"Lonely."
He's always been honest with Taehyung. Somehow the older guy makes him spill all his secrets.
Kim Taehyung
"Which is why..."
Jeon Jungkook
"I know I should have gone home... But I don't want to answer all their questions about girlfriends and all."
Kim Taehyung
We talked about telling our families
Jungkook's eyes widen in shock.
Kim Taehyung
"We've only talked about it. Nothing confirmed but we want to... I'm tired of hiding. We both are."
He knows how it is for the two of them. How tough it is being in a relationship and having to constantly hide it. But their fans could see it, at least some of them did. He remembers their first talk about fan fiction, something Jungkook was well acquainted with. How Taehyung had a good laugh over the fact the most popular ship was Yoongi and Jimin. Yoongi had been confused.
Kim Taehyung
"I guess because you both are short and cute!"
That comment earned him a whack from Yoongi.
Jeon Jungkook
"Do they ask about it?"
Kim Taehyung
"I think mum knows."
Kim Taehyung
"I talk about him all the time. The only person I talk about more than Jimin is Tannie."
Jeon Jungkook
Well I guess they won't ask about being married then."
Kim Taehyung
"Not like we haven't done that."
Jungkook's chopsticks fall to the ground in a clatter
Kim Taehyung
"We got married."
Jeon Jungkook
"WHAT? WHEN? HOW?"
Kim Taehyung
"Remember when we first won the Billboard Awards?"
Kim Taehyung
"Chim and I got fake IDs made and we got married in one of the chapels in Vegas."
Jeon Jungkook
"Oh my god."
Kim Taehyung
. "I have the marriage certificate in our dorm. It says a Christian Park married a Jack Kim."
Jeon Jungkook
You've got to be kidding me. How drunk were you?
Kim Taehyung
We were sober. It happened at 10 am."
Jungkook can imagine them sneaking out of their hotels giggling away as they would normally.
Jeon Jungkook
How the hell did no one know about this?"
Kim Taehyung
"We just wanted something that was ours, you know? I think that moment would rate as number one on my favourite moments in life... okay no... wait, maybe two ‘cause.... one would be when we first kissed or no no no... one would be when he got me a leash..."
Jeon Jungkook
"TAEHYUNG WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION!"
Kim Taehyung
He laughs wildly without a care like he usually does.
"What about you?"
Jeon Jungkook
"What about me?"
Jungkook knows what he's going to ask about. Taehyung's been subtly talking about it. He hears him sigh.
Kim Taehyung
You know what I'm talking about.
Jeon Jungkook
"I have no idea, hyung."
If anything Jungkook was a master at deflecting.
Kim Taehyung
"How long has it been?
Jeon Jungkook
He doesn't want to say. But he does.
"Sixteen. Sixteen years.
Kim Taehyung
"I think you should talk to him."
Jeon Jungkook
And what hyung? What is he going to say to me? ‘Hey Jungkook, I love you like a brother, no homo.’ Or God, worse if he wants to pity date me because it would break his heart to upset me."
Jeon Jungkook
"I don't want that. I'm fine."
He waits for Taehyung to whine, to push him, to make any sort of frustrated gesture. Instead Taehyung laughs.
Kim Taehyung
"You're not fine. You and I both know that. If you want to talk, I'm always here for you. Whatever you decide. Good night Guk."
Jungkook whispers back a softer good night.
