Episode 8

June felt her hands warming, and red and yellow flames sprang up, not only on her hands but also around her, rising to form a wall of fire between June and Merheia. On June's side, the fire did not burn, but Merheia had to step back, even though she was pleased that the fire chose June.

In front of June, the fire shaped images, starting with memories:

"No, daddy, not this man, he hurts June.

"Go away, useless brat," De la Cruz said, slapping the young face.

She went and entered the room; amidst everything the man did to her, the fire was there, watching everything."

June ran her fingers over the round scars on her arms, marks made by cigarettes and cigars. The fire dissipated the images and a flame shot toward June, turning blue on its way and enveloping the scars. She felt her skin heat, even in her private parts, and when the flame returned, there were no more marks.

The fire showed another image; this time, it was about her arrival at the Pack, and she heard in her mind, "I won't turn her, she's not worth it, send her away," it was the Alpha's voice, rejecting her. Then, it revealed the image of her dreams, a castle, and everything vanished.

Merheia smiled and clapped her hands, approaching June and hugging her.

"You did it, you're stronger than I thought. We can begin your training. You will be very powerful.

"Can we go back now? I'm tired and hungry."

"All right, dear. You were wonderful and deserve a feast."

The witch opened a portal, and they stepped through, arriving in the middle of the forest. Dawn was breaking, and many couples were still asleep, entwined, and the sexual scent was very strong.

"Yuck! What happened?" June asked, disgusted.

Merheia opened another portal and they emerged inside her house.

"Why didn't we come straight here to bypass that orgy?

"Magic things, I cannot mix. This place was made with different magic. I can leave it, but not enter directly."

"And that grotesque vision?"

"Oh... I forgot, there was a full moon last night, and there must have been a hunt. It's a wolf thing, and I completely forgot. We spent more time than I expected on Fate Plateau."

"So, there were transformations and mating last night?"

"Yes, sorry, it would have been your introduction, you might even have found your mate."

"Nonsense... I'm hungry. I want to eat."

"Yes, come on."

Merheia conjured some food but liked real meals, so she went to the kitchen, started the coffee machine, made scrambled eggs with bacon, and set the table. They sat down and feasted and only then Merheia began to speak of the upcoming lessons.

"You said I'll be very powerful. May I know why that interests you?

"Well, I suspect the king is bewitched, and it won't be long before the Pack becomes a target for whoever is behind this."

"Yes, evil exists everywhere, and I thought I was the only one suffering from it, trapped by it."

"They are the two sides of the coin, heads or tails, good and evil, yin and yang, and so forth. There are white witches and dark witches, but the truly wicked ones are the blood witches."

"So it was a blood witch... and how do you beat one of those?"

"That's why I'm training you. Being a werewolf and able to use fire magic, you'll be my ideal support in confronting Luna."

"Something puzzled me when we arrived, the smell. Didn't you find it bad? It didn't seem like wolf scent."

"I don't have your nose, dear, and you know what? I'm going to sleep for a bit. I'm exhausted. You coming?"

"Yes, I am. Thank you for everything. It was good."

Merheia smiled, yawned, and went up to her room. Her mind was tired but full of plans. June let her go, tidied up, and after she noticed the total silence, left, letting her wolf take control and headed for the forest.

The mating couples had gone, and the foul smell prevailed. The wolf followed the scent and came upon the body of a dead young man. She sniffed the entire body and identified three unfamiliar scents, logging them in her mind. Hearing a noise, she hid behind the waterfall's waters.

A huge wolf arrived, snuffling the air, sensing a female had been there. The waters concealed the wolf and her scent. She returned to human form to get around the stone at the waterfall's edge and approach the wolf unseen. She recognized the scent before seeing who it was and had a startle.

Ramon noticed the female's shift and honed his hunter's instincts, pinpointing exactly where she was coming from, and waited. When they came face to face, they both were startled. He recognized the young woman Malik had run over, and she was only startled by being taken by surprise.

She was grabbed by the arm and questioned:

"What are you doing here?

"I smelled something foul and came to investigate, that's all."

"Have you been turned?"

"Who are you?" She recognized the voice but did not know who it belonged to.

"I am the Alpha of this Pack, and if you are here, I am your leader.

"A leader who didn't want to turn me, sorry but no. I was born of a wolf father and a human mother. I owe you nothing."

The Alpha scowled but remained silent; he had to bury the body, not wanting anyone else to see it and doubt his Luna.

"Go away and forget what you've seen.

"I also want nothing to do with you and what you've done. Goodbye."

She was about to walk back through the forest when she was paralyzed and lost consciousness without realizing it, carried off to a place she didn't know by an unknown person. She was thrown into the lowest cell, where there was neither floor nor light. It was fully enclosed and worse than any place she'd been before.

"It's a good thing I followed you; she might have talked about the young man's death, and we can't allow that. We can't leave any suspicion lingering in the people's minds.

"All right, but how long will she stay here?"

"Forget her, my dear; she doesn't exist anymore."
