Episode 7

June's lessons began, with Malek first teaching her about the intricacies of lupine mutations. She successfully navigated through the three basic forms: human, wolf, and the hybrid of both—half and half. June's diligence paid off as she swiftly mastered the transformations, her vast experience enduring pain serving her well in this. Now, she would rise at night, after Merheia had fallen asleep or departed for her usual absences, and June would sneak out to run in the forest.

The sensation of freedom, with the wind streaming through her fur, was the most exquisite feeling she could imagine. She even dared to hunt larger game, leap across rivers, bound over high branches and rocks, growing ever stronger by the day. She began to breathe rhythmically, attuning herself to nature, sharpening her senses to pick up on every sound and detail.

She could feel the vibrations of energy in the air; on stormy days, it was as if she could summon lightning to her, a sort of pure magnetism. Her life had completely transformed from what it once was, and inside, she harbored the certainty that she could achieve anything she set her mind to. Lying naked atop a plateau, on the peak of a hill, she gazed up at the moon resting directly overhead.

"Thank you. You responded when I needed you most—I think it was you, due to your connection with werewolves. I'm so happy with my newfound strength, but I want more. I crave a fiery power, to incinerate all who harm the defenseless. Can you grant me that, too?"

Her eyes glowed red, the wolf within her pleading as well, yearning for more. However, apart from a white luminosity that poured forth from the celestial body, nothing else materialized. She let the wolf take over and headed home, laying down in her human bed, but her sleep was that of one touched by the supernatural.

From that night on, June's dreams became peculiar and enigmatic. She saw herself descending a dark, cramped corridor and a never-ending spiral staircase, waking up drenched in sweat, clueless about the meaning of these odd dreams. She arose feeling keen for her first lessons, which, to her disappointment, turned out to be dreadfully dull.

June had to wade through numerous texts on werewolf history and, subsequently, about the Pack. She also had to learn about sorcerers, witches, and magic. At first, reading and writing had come slowly to her, but practice made it easier. The most monotonous part, though, was memorizing plant names in Latin.

Weeks were spent learning about herbs, minerals, spells, creatures, and potion making. She committed it all to memory until it was time for practical work. She brewed numerous potions, discovered an element that resonated with the wolf's energy—none other than a blue teardrop-shaped stone, which she wore around her neck and daily infused with the wolf's essence.

She practiced in secret, so Merheia wouldn't gauge her progress, and quietly amassed a stock of potions. The dreams persisted, each night revealing a new element. Now, the staircase widened into stone steps, leading down to a dungeon. Upon awakening, she didn't bother to remember; the place had become oddly dear to her.

"Come, June. Today we will practice in a peculiar locale," said Merheia.

"You mean a secret place."

"Something like that."

Merheia opened a portal and they stepped through, arriving on a plateau where the ground was blanketed in grass and surrounded by a circle of tall granite stones, enclosing a flat marble circle on the ground.

"Step into the center. We shall see which element will choose to bestow its magic upon you. Focus, hold your stone, and think of an element. Start with water, perhaps," Merheia prompted.

June was curious but didn't want her guide to know.

"What should I do, think, say, invoke—what exactly?"

"Whatever you wish, however you believe it should be. Just try."

"Okay, here goes."

She focused her mind on the water element and whispered:

"Wa-ter."

Nothing occurred; water wasn't what she wanted, so she moved to the next element.

"Ea-rth."

She felt a subtle shift in the ground beneath her feet and ceased the call. Only she knew that earth would answer her call. Moving on:

"Air."

No response came, and she proceeded to the next, but his time she deeply desired it and whispered with fervor:

"Fi-re."

A howl resonated throughout the Pack, signaling the impending full moon gathering that evening, centered around the celebrated campfire and the renowned hunt for a mate. The news thrilled everyone—the males for the obvious reason, and the females for the festivities. Those about to transform for the first time were tense with anticipation, knowing they might find a partner.

"This night will be exceptional. No fragrances, I want your pure scent to entice me," the Alpha instructed his Luna.

"Of course, my Alpha. I shall be pristine for our mating, to conceive our offspring."

"I trust you, dear," he said, stroking the female's cheek, but his feelings for her lacked the passionate love said to bond true mates.

As night fell, the pack gathered around the fire, roasting game, feasting, and sharing valiant Pack tales. High spirits reigned, and when the full moon peaked, the new wolves transformed, the females soon racing off, gaining distance from the males.

The deceptive Luna caught the scent of her true mate, a young male experiencing his first transformation. She concealed herself and awaited him, tracking the scent of the young wolf and swiftly ensnaring him. They mated near a waterfall, hidden behind a rock where she would typically wait for the Alpha.

Due to his inexperience, the young male's climax came quickly. She pushed him away while he was dazed, feigning an attack. As the Alpha arrived, he didn't hesitate to slay the youth, tossing aside the body before mating with his female in his wolf form, oblivious to the previous scent, masked by her potion.

The forest echoed with the sound of thorough indulgence; many matings likely leading to numerous offspring. The Luna's hope hung on conceiving, relying on more than a miracle.
